Re: Traveller wheels (sigh) ...

Had a look on ESM site. No sign of 4.5 PCD steel wheels. Are you talking about alloys?

Re: Fuel pump

I have one original pump that makes a noise like a sledgehammer whilst others are just a gentle clicking. I ASSUME the new diaphragm is clouting the alloy chamber at the end of the stroke. I keep a spare with that car, just in case. Never had to use it in 2 years of ownership.

Might have a NOS 482 going on Ebay as soon as I can work out how to use it.

Re: Smiths Emission Control Valve (ECV)

Is there anywhere with a write-up on exactly how the valve is designed to function?
Thanks,
Rob

Re: Side-valve valve inserts

Wot Phil said. Inserts are not hard to source and pretty much any engine shop can fit them. Get all 4 done at the same time. New valves aren't hard to find. Well worth doing.

Re: Mystery SU carb

Post-1948 UK spec Series MM, by the looks of it. Early cars had float bowl on other side. Steel intake is for the silencer rather than the export filter.

Buy the kit and then watch the Youtube from John Twist (?) in the US about rebuilding MGB pumps. Tells you all you need. I've done loads of pumps.

Re: What have I done wrong?

I would have thought that if they were interested in keeping a reputation then they'd have replaced some obviously-faulty plates quickly in the hope of impressing potential customers. They seem to have instead done the exact opposite. A month later and you still haven't got what you paid for? As you...

Re: Early MM parts

Great.
It has just been announced that an additional $1000NZ will be required to 'disinfect' the car before departure. That $1000 car has somehow become $7000+ car, Rod.
Looks like a no-go, I'm afraid.

Re: Early MM parts

Hello Rod. Still working on it. Shipping seems to hover between $5800 and $6500 NZ so I need to keep looking for a sensible price. Not impossible. I did wonder if it might be more viable if the container was filled with other 'stuff' that is more common in NZ. Early front bodywork and early engines,...

Re: Early MM parts

Do you know anyone in the business who might have 11 feet in a container going to the UK? Hard to organise anything other than a full container from the UK end of the line. We're in South Wales so anywhere between London and Bristol is handy.

Our ex- Aus Lowlight. Before and after. :D

I asked ESM if they could supply 2 hubs with 4.5 inch PCD or just blank.

No reply. :(

Re: Early MM parts

About £3000 UK for a 20 foot container from Auckland to this side of the UK dock gates. That's good for 2 cars and a couple of tons of parts.

Re: Early MM parts

Anyone know how expensive it would be? Might be able to justify it if I could get enough other bits inside the shipping container. Our 1949 came from Aus so it can't be too expensive. Not many unrestored Lowlights in the UK, after all.

Photos would be handy, obviously. :D

Re: dvla visit

The registration 'lplates' belong to the DVLA so if you own the car and the plates hadn't been correctly transferred then maybe you now own the right to drive around with them displayed? Sounds like a bit of a minefield.

Have you thought about exporting the whole car? One that early has great value in the UK. How bad is it?

Re: Clutch pressure plate set up

I guess the biggest problem will be to work out what height to set the fingers at . Presumably the thrust ring is identical on all 3 corners? If so, you could run a DTI to even out the heights quite easily. If not....oh boy. That Apkoway set was the one I had my eye on. Too expensive at the moment. ...
