Re: My new ride.
Well done on having such a rare beast. I really like them. My dad had the successor - an R reg VX 1800 which was just a slightly warmed over FE with larger headlamps. As a kid I loved the rear legroom but dad always complained that the engine was "slow to respond" especially compared to th...

Yes indeed has made a significant difference to most of the car thanks, so it's only localised areas that need more workbmcecosse wrote:Don't use 'sandpaper' - very fine 'wet & dry' is what you need. But will the surface not improve with just polishing mop and good cutting compound?

Sanding to perfection
So, having got my 2 door back on the road for the first time in 20 years I'm thoroughly enjoying driving my first minor. When restoring the car I spent quite a bit of time trying to get the bodywork as good as I could but in all honesty it needs more work. I'm just not happy with the smoothness of s...

Beautiful E reg 2 door saloon complete with external sun visor, spotlights and boot rack travelling west on the A45 yesterday near Rushden, Northants, then a very nice smoke grey traveller at Wellingborough retail park.

Re: Fuel gauge issue
An inspired suggestion Roy. I've just removed it from the car, connected to the multimeter and got about 20ohms on full and about 195ohms on empty. And the fuel gauge now works. So what was wrong? The only thing I can think of is that the sender may have been catching somehow on a baffle inside the ...

Possible I guess though it was a new sender - I'll remove from car to check anyway.

Re: Fuel gauge issue
Had a spare moment to revisit this longstanding issue. With a new voltage stabiliser I now (unlike before) get a very consistent 10 volts coming out of the stabiliser to the fuel gauge and from the gauge to fuel sender. I added an extra terminal to one of the sender screws and connected the fuel gau...

Re: Fuel gauge issue
Well I almost got to catton hall in the Minor - went to fill up with fuel and it would only take £2.88 worth before the pump clicked off. Unfortunately fuel was by then leaking between the filler pipe and the bodywork  I will investigate all that tomorrow. And the gauge is still only reading o...
