From what you've shown, the car doesn't look too bad rust-wise. What did you use to strip the paint?

Re: Escort axle on standard dampers

Bear in mind that turreting the dampers lands you in 'modified bodyshell' territory, and might end up with you having to put the car through a BIVA test.

Re: The Distinctive Sound of a Morris Minor

^^^ Look how far back the silencer is. Most rwd live=axle equipped cars have an over-axle bend like the Minor. However not many have the silencer so close to the downpipe. For those who want to make the car fart-free, I would suggest moving the silencer back to just in front of the over-axle bend. S...

Re: Stainless steel bumpers

The price doesn't look too much if the bumpers are a quality item, but one problem with using stainless steel parts next to mild steel is the mild steel corrodes a lot more than it would as it acts as a sacrificial anode. http://chemwiki.ucdavis.edu/Analytical_Chemistry/Electrochemistry/Case_Studie...

Re: Wow! Hot wheels!

Have a look at the breather hole in the master cylinder filler cap. It can get blocked with crud, and the brakes tend to stick on when this happens.

Re: SCARY moment

Silicone fluid is a nightmare - very very expensive and you would need to change ALL the rubber components in the braking system. And then flush out all the pipes.. Ordinary fluid is indeed hygroscopic - but that doesn't mean pools of water should form in the cylinders!! Yes - it should be changed ...

Re: Maintaining and owning a Morris Minor

Welcome aboard. The only things I can add are:- 1) Get a decent workshop manual and read it rom cover to cover several times. 2) invest in a decent imperial socket set and some spanners. 3) buy a grease gun, and make a note of what needs greasing and how often. I realise that at 16 you're probably s...

Re: Turbo Diesel Minor!!

From what I've heard, the 1.4D suffers from head gasket issues, these were cured with the 1.5D, which has an iron block. Hooking one of these up to a Suzuki Jeep gearbox looks pretty simple. The downside is that the speedo drive is contained within the transfer case which you'll be removing (unless ...

Have you thought about a folding caravan? Portafolds come up for sale occasionally and only weigh about 300kg. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSz8jKwPxzDZdwIKFRviyKJc4ptCTKUcS2smM6A1kDVXSC9Fv9PJA http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Portafold-Folding-Caravan-40-year-old-Classic-/00/s/NjAwWDg...

Re: How to rehang a minor 1000 door?

I use thick 6" nails as an aid to alignment. Pass them through the bolt holes in the hinges & into the hinge pillar to locate the captive plate. Once it's all located, take the nails out one at a time and replace them with the bolts.

Re: 1275 Ital Engine Datsun 5speed questions

That's probably a custom-built bellhousing, plus mounts. These kits rarely alter the actual gearbox in any way.

Re: 1275 Ital Engine Datsun 5speed questions

If the gearbox has a separate bellhousing, then swapping it to a Datsun one is all you'll have to do.
