you nicked the parts of your dad's car? Ahha - His car's WoF (MOT) has just expired and it needs work before getting another and he suggested that but I didn't go that way as I would have ment pulling the whole thing to bits and refitting, bleeding brakes etc etc. If you can get that undersize (0.0...

ok - the thread is NO standard thread - just a BMC one. So I need the special BMC die nut (part No. 18G305A). Finally found who owned one but the guy died and noone knows where it went.

I think I have found a temp way around it to at least get on the road in the mean time.

I've been to try and find a dienut to trim my thread down a little but we can't determine what the original thread was. Does any one know what the original thread is for the top of the kingpin? Then if I get an adjustable dienut I can just trim it down till the smaller top knuckle I have fits nicely...

Well things didn't go the best for the alignment - I have to relook at the top of my trunnions/kingpins/swivelpins (depends who you talk to and which manual you read). Too much slop! I now have my LH one redone nicely thanks to donor vehicle (replaced the top knuckle) I have a few different top knuc...

Hmm sounds more like a heavier problem than height would cause the seats to fold under
PS - its in Dad's car - it was like it when we bought it (except it had double the thickness wooden blocks under the legs)

I have a gearleaver like that on my van!! But mine is not a std gear box - its all datsun (motor and box), but I still haven't actually figured why its so bent - it comes up the right hole in the floor but has quite a bit of slack so I figue its so you can get 2nd, 4th and reverse without hitting th...

Wooden blocks under the back... works every time, eh Cam?

Yep! works a treat for us short-bottoms!!
and a thin block works for us taller ones when the legs of the seats have started to fold under

Thanks Chris

I've managed to look at the Haynes Owners workshop manual and that has all the info, as does my Morris Minor Motor Manual and my 6- and 8-cwt Vehicles Driver's Handbook.

Thanks

Wheel Alignment Specs

My ute is about ready for the road :D Am taking it in tomorrow for the exhaust and alignment and hopefully a valuation. The chaps doing the alignment want to know the specs for this. If you can help I'd appreciate it :) I have a Haynes manual so if its in there I'm ok - but am not able to check now ...

I have seen a pair of widened std rims which were running 205 70 14s I'm not sure what width the rims were but that was the tyre they were running for the rear. I think these were on a pickup - maybe a flatdeck (flat bed / table top). Which would give it more space for width.

Toyo must be a Jap tyre - We have many Jap imports come with Toyos on them. Originally thought of as being a cheapo, they haven't proven to be too bad. We had a set already on a vehicle we bought and from memory they lasted us quite well. I can't comment on them being quiet, soft, hard wearing etc. ...

Crossplys are tyres designed for cars - they do the job and are original to the minor. In saying that, personally I don't consider radials a originality threatening modification. They are a replaceable mod. There is always the option of running two sets of wheels - radials for most running and cross...

My ute also had its seats swapped over - I think the drivers seat gets a real hammering so they swap it for the better seat and give the passenger the sagging one. In the case of mine the drivers seat (ex passenger seat) had deteriated to a worse state than the passenger seat (ex worn out drivers se...

I de-clutch just by habit
Same here, and while I have driven many different cars I won't add "over the years" (that sounds too old).

Then again I've never come across a car that likes its clutch engaged on startup.

I was thinking that it might be gearbox oil as you say Ray. Also before draining I looked down the filler hole and with the light and my eye in as close to the same location as possible I noticed that the oil was only just visible down the hole and not filled to the bottom of the thread. I've left i...

That's very decent of you Scott. Where shall I get Qantas to send the bill?
Phew - glad I wasn't doing the inviting there Scott - looks like you might end up with a financial problem. What location were you thinking of? Sydney? I might use Air New Zealand.

I drained the oil from my gearbox today and it was thick like sirrup, also very light in colour but very opaque.

Comments?

Is it refilled with same oil as engine - Not gearbox oil?

I've never seen a witch there - but as aupickup says its for the speedo lights. In my dad's car it turns them off and on seperate the the headlights (ie when you turn the lights on you seem to also have to turn this on - and off after) but on my ute it works with the head lights and the switch just ...
