Re: sills with pics, uncover the bodge

The bodger has done the usual ,seen many times over the years,The complete inner and outer under sill section covered with a sheet of metal from inside of floor to inner undersill joint to outer undersill . Result yes it passes mot because the tester can't see that the whole structure and strength o...

Re: Engine won't start, carburettor problem?

Its unlikely to be anything mechanical, timing,, pressure, air leak electical . because.....when you tipped petrol into the carb it started and ran till that petrol was used up,it starts and runs when you used a petrol supply from a can (is that with the replacement carb as well) Have you tried feedin...

Re: Engine won't start, carburettor problem?

You say you have checked ,fuel in bowl and pump is supplying petrol to carb, that you have check the choke operation that on tipping petrol into carb it runs for a while. So it must be getting a petrol supply.Adjusted carb(12 flats). Is it fresh petrol in tank,or did you return old petrol when you cl...

Re: Front suspension- is this right?

I saw one once about 1966 ,It was embedded in the road after a suspension collapse ,forced it all back together, strapped it up with fencing wire (stolen from a farmers fence, wonder where he thought that bit of wire went), drove 2 mile back home .No way I could afford a recovery back then.

Re: Engine won't start, carburettor problem?

if it starts when you pour petrol into the carb then it is a petrol supply problem, don't mess about with any other setting, because you may add a problem.I would suspect you have got grit under the needle valve in the top of the carb,Its held in the cap on the top of the carb fuel bowl three screws o...

Re: Ford discs-sticking caliper?

If the bearing is worn,a simple pull ,and push with a hand on top of disc and one on the bottom will show up any excessive wear on the bearing It would be obvious ,there is sometimes slight play so slight movement is ok. With the weight of the car on the road any wear in the bearing ,will cause the ...

Re: Rear brakes

On ser 11 (Don't know about later minors but think they are the same) rear retainers are the beehive type with a hook to line up to and slip under a loop, and are a pain to fit. Many just leave them off ,the return springs hold the shoes hard up against the back plate .Having said that I did have one...

Re: Ford discs-sticking caliper?

The bottom of the caliper on the photo looks to be very close to the disc, and MAY be causing the noise.Just put a few dabs of tippex or similar non silicon product round the disc and spin it ,it will be scrapped off if it is touching. Compare it with the other side, could be the angle of the photos b...

Re: Won't start - what have I done?

just throw the petrol in,then get in the car and try to start it, what you are doing is bypassing the action of the choke don't do it more than once(Unless you leave plenty of time between tests ,or you may flood the plugs.. If it starts and then still fails to keep running clear indication of fuel ...

Re: Won't start - what have I done?

Dropping the jet via the choke only lets the jet move down to a thinner part of the needle to open up a bigger gap to let more fuel into the carb mix. it has no effect on the fuel level thats set and held via the level in the float chamber .If you've not touched the timing, Initial fault was after w...

Re: Rear brake cylinders

only repair (on any car) if no replacements obtainable, never a good idea, the reason being that the old cylinder will have a rough wear area where the old rubber didn't reach,as soon as you pump the brake to bleed or on braking after repair the new rubber hits this area and very quickly gets damaged...

should have a rubber seal and tightens up with the large outer nut just below the wiper arm, take wiper arm off undo nut lift everything off and fit new seal ,you need to hold the centre spindle to prevent it dropping back inside the car,if it does just get something to hold it up from inside( wives...
