Re: Cylinder head and tappets
You could try just nipping up the head bolts to 44lb/ft and seeing if that does the trick, before you go removing the head.

Re: Fan belt.
I have a 948 engine/ box/diff and speedo,removed from a scrap car. I've never experienced the 948. I often hear it's a very smooth unit. Is there a big difference on power out put,compared to the 1098 Job ? Quite a difference: 1956–62: 948 cc A-series inline-four, 37 hp (28 kW) at 4,750 rpm and 50 ...

Re: What is this bracket thing on my engine? Standard?
My 1970 Traveller with 1098cc engine just had the breather hose from the carb base to the canister on the front tappet chest cover, a ventilated plastic oil filler cap, and no hose at all from the air filter housing (just the stub ventilating to atmosphere). Similar to this one: http://www.classican...

Re: Cylinder head and tappets
Removing the 1098cc head is a piece of cake, relatively speaking. Drain the radiator (remove bottom hose, drain into a suitable pan), remove top hose to thermostat housing and either the heater valve itself or the hose and cable to it, also the loosen the jubilee clip on the brass pipe where it goes...

Re: Adderley chassis points
The book 'Morris Minor' by Paul Skilleter lists the last-of-the-line 1971 Travellers as chassis numbers 1290813 to 1294082, the last Traveller built in April 1971.
I think it was only the last year of production that got the steering column ignition switch.

Re: Getting Prepared
I used Sikkens microporous wood stain on my Traveller a few years back, and recommend it as a very durable finish - having previously tried all the usual yacht varnishes, boiled linseed oil, Danish oil, etc. Absolute nonsense all this guff about not using the original jacking points - as long as the...

It may the same fault as mine - the switch failed. I wired in a 'temporary' replacement in parallel with the existing one years ago, and still haven't got around to replacing the original!
Re: Fan belt.
I stand corrected - was remembering my mum's Cavalier 1.7TD, that had the Isuzu engine.
I would imagine a Vauxhall dealer should be able to supply a suitable filter, or failing that, you could fit a K&N panel filter, perhaps?

Have you tried your local Vauxhall dealer? Being an Isuzu engine, you could try an Isuzu dealer as well...

Re: Fan belt.
Sometimes, the belt will have a size written on it, e.g., 305 x 10, the larger number being the overall length. Most good motor factors do a large variety of belts to cover most makes and models.

I quite like the sound of mine - it only tends to do it on long downhill coasts.

Re: Cleaning Advice
You're best off just getting the car up on ramps and using a good old wire brush to shift the worst of the crud. Wear gloves, old clothes/overalls and goggles and maybe a hat, as it will get mucky! A steam cleaner would be the next best thing. If you're going to be pressure washing it, give it a goo...

Re: What is this bracket thing on my engine? Standard?
Some 1098cc engines had an additional rubber hose that went from an angled pipe on the rocker cover to the stub on the back of the air filter. The later ones just had the hose from the oil trap on the tappet chest cover direct to the base of the carb, and a ventilated plastic oil filler cap, with a ...
