Re: Cylinder head swap!

Thanks BMC - I guessed it might be you that replied first  1 more question - how 'thick' should a standard 12G202 be then - so I know if mine has been skimmed before. Bit of a hitch with the manifold/carb. The 1098 I have was in a 948 style minor, so it came with an odd mix of 948/1098 bits. It...

Re: Cylinder head swap!

Also want to swap as I want to fit a temperature gauge, so a 1098 head makes things easier

Cylinder head swap!

Hi all, I'm about to embark on a full service of my 948 - this includes changing the head gasket. My question is is there any benefit in putting a 1098 head on a 948? I am aware of the 12G295 mod but i have a redundant 1098 awaiting rebuild. Also - will the valves need sinking - like the 12G mod, or...

Re: Morris Minor and researching other classics

There are 4 main spares suppliers that spring to mind straight away, so getting a part is never a problem. I find my minor a good car to live with, but it depends on what you look for, if you need radio or cruise control etc. As for mpg, on a cautious run, 40 can be gained I understand, but 35 is a ...

Re: Best way of preserving my engine !

I find it difficult to tell my indicated speed in the first place! It'll waver between 27-33mph when I am doing around 30, for example. Takes some getting used to - especially round speed camera city here!

I have the same problem with my gold faced speedo - it never reads past 3/4. Is yours a gold faced speedo too? I just always make sure it has some petrol in :D

Re: Indicators

Sometimes I get a similar problem on my minor, a 948. When I indicate right, it flashes fast as if a bulb is out, but if you adjust the position of the indicator switch slightly, it works perfectly. I guess because it is combined with the horn, it is allowed to move too much and affects the contact ...

Re: car not starting

Local car shops can be a bit 'hit and miss'. My dad had a 6 volt one from a local shop, put it on a few months ago, and a cell has collapsed! At least with Halfords you do get a warranty, so you get what you pay for...

Re: car not starting

Check all wiring for a short somewhere. Try disconnecting the battery next time you turn it off, and reconnect it when you return.
