Also make sure the bracket is fitted the correct way. The leg of the "L", where the steady fits, points down which does make the end steady nut harder to access but ensures the steady is more horizontal.

RE: Oil pressure gauge

I personally prefer a "mechanical" gauge. Just as easy (well almost!) to route a small bore copper pipe, and fit a "tee" piece into where the oil pressure switch screws, than wires. I would say no to the possibility of utilising the warning light switch because that's all it is a...

No but it's probably lasted so long because like most Volvo, BMW, Mercedes Benz and 16 drivers I never use indicators.

and if you find a flasher unit that keeps working for the lifetime of a Mog, I'd love to know where! :D How about the one I've just replaced then - date stamped 11/72, when I assume the indicators might have been modified from the original flashing brake lights. But it's not strictly outlasted my c...

A lot of modern "state of the art" automobile electronics with a built in destruction factor will not be working in 5 years time never mind 50.

Waxoyling access

Re Travellers and the closing plate between the timber and floor/chassis rail?
Can anyone confirm that access to the top side of this plate, for Waxoyling, is possible after removing the trim panels at the rear seat/wheel arch top? Or suggest a different approach.

(wake up Cam! ). It is Friday after all. Yes it is odd. I initially checked Haynes wiring diagram and the first thought was it can't happen!! I've removed the can (yesterday) and as you say there's nothing obviously amiss. Quite a clever, simple little device really. Anyone want a pict...

Cam - there is only the one warning lamp connection inside the unit irrespective of which way the indicator switch is positioned. If the warning lamp works for one direction then it should work for the other. That is what was happening and I can't figure out why changing the flasher unit cured the f...

Yes the "P" connection feeds the warning lamp. But the flasher unit doesn't know or care which indicators the switch connects to. It just has feed from fuse box and output to switch (L and B) plus warning lamp separately. So if the warning lamp works for one direction (in my first post), p...

Oddball indicators.

Yesterday I noticed that the indicator stalk warning light wasn't working on my saloon. On arrival home checked and all indicators were working. Must be the warning light bulb! Removed and tested found o.k. but fitted new one anyway. Tried indicators, all working but warning lamp only working for le...

Maybe the poll question is wrong because the answer surely is yes. e.g it could possibly be compared to "does fitting 7 leaf rear springs instead of 5 leaf really make a difference?" Might have been better asking if the cost involved is worth the expense? Don't forget to identify left and ...

A clever man Mr Whitworth. He invented and manufactured a rifle which had a spiral hexagonal barrel and bullets to suit. Highly accurate. He'd calculated the best spiral for velocity and accuracy. At the time the British government refused to buy because of cost. Whitworth sold the rifle to Confeder...

I purchased a 3/4" Whit ring spanner at a car boot a few years ago, as Rog says only a couple of squid, cut it down to about 7" and now use it as a "flogging" spanner. A few or less, hard or less smacks with a 4lb hammer usually releases the nut. Never failed yet. I just tighten ...
