Re: Speedo cable lubrication

Just wondering (out loud) if a spray tin of graphite dry lubricant would work for a realatively undamaged cable ? I used this on a starter bendix and it worked great. I should imagine it wouldn't creep up the cable to get into the speedo.

Re: Engine not running properly - strange clicking noise!

Great video but still difficult to assess where the noise is coming from ... hopefully not the bottom end. Is your oil pressure light going off as normal ?

Re: Too long without a Minor ...

The truck in the background is a 1948 International KB5, not so practical as a daily driver but great when we need to transport anything large or heavy ... 1 1/2 ton of floor tile recently ... still not finished laying it !!

Too long without a Minor ...

..... about seven years actually, but I recently managed to purchase this ........[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1464461926_4843 [/frame] Excellent condition underneath, never been welded and doesn't need it. Had a bit of a smokey engine but a new set of valve guides and seals fixed that...

Re: Blue smoke !!

Nothing wrong with the double cast oil rings, they are a snug fit in the groove when compressed and no wavy spring ever fitted or required, not like there's anything flapping about loosely !! i'm no expert but that's how these Hepolite pistons came and they appear to be doing the job. No I didn't cu...

Re: Blue smoke !!

After much searching on the web and finding no information about these pistons, I finally found a reference in the 'vizard bible' .... "if you are looking for a high performance piston for either an 850 or 948 engine, the Sprite flat topped, Powermax piston from Hepolite, part number 18519/KR i...

Re: Blue smoke !!

Thanks for quick replies, yes, I think I will get hold of some new guides with grooves. So ... Oil rings .. The pistons are made by AE and have two oil control rings in the one groove, they can spin independantly, no springs or spacers. The rings have a profile like this ...[frame] http://mmoc.org.u...

Blue smoke !!

Just bought a 1960 Minor, standard 948 engine coughing blue smoke. Bodywork and underside is very good condition so I used the smoke to get the price down, expecting to rebuild the engine. Head off and bores still show cross hatching from a +20 re-bore, pulled a piston to find it in similarly excell...

Re: pickup ground clearance?

Usually exhaust, sump and bump stops would be deciding factors but not problems I expect to encounter ... long story short, I am fabricating my own chassis and working on front suspension attachment points right now. I researched (googled) front suspension design and decided that if I wanted to use ...

pickup ground clearance?

Hi People,
Could anybody tell me what the ground clearance is on a realativly standard pickup, and if anybody has lowered one, what is a good height without worrying about speed humps etc. I,m looking for the distance between the bottom of the chassis and the road. Many thanks.
