Hi,
Does anyone know if the fuel pump filter can be removed without removing the pump from the car? It looks like it might be possible....
Thank you,
Pete

Re: blocked pipe
Yes, that thought has already crossed my mind. In fact I think I have a pump gasket in my scullery. If so I will add it to the boot collection.............

Re: blocked pipe
Gentlemen, thank you for your replies. It was, indeed, the by-pass hose I was talking about. Funnily enough, there was a small pebble(!) stuck in the hose which may have caused the problem. I don't think the rest of the system can be too bad as the car has never overheated. Also, the water that came ...

Re: bouncy speedo!
My speedo needle swung up and down until one day there was a loud shrieking/grating noise and the needle stopped working altogether. The cable had broken so I fitted a new one.The needle was then steady for a while but has returned to swinging - at about 60mph it oscillates between 40 and 80! I see ...

blocked pipe
Hello, I went to replace the small hose between the water pump and the cylinder head as it was perished and leaking. Then I saw the water pump pipe was completely blocked! It took me a good 15 minutes to clear it with an allen key (I needed something with a right angle to get into the pipe). It was ...

Re: removing front damper
Yes, you did sir, but it was Phil who provided the crucial detail of using "some pressure (but not excessive) to push the trunnion (Part No SUS137/8) eye rearwards and at the same time twisting it whilst also making sure that the front trunnion bush (Part No: SUS144) remains on and at the front...

Re: removing front damper
Having had to do this job again (serves me right for getting a second-hand damper which failed within weeks) I confirm Phil the Hill is right - the trick is to pull the top trunnion backwards and towards you while twisting it clockwise. It then does slide off. But that rear bush is difficult. It was...

Re: removing front damper
Crikey! I wish I could just slide it off. When I undo the rear nut, lockwasher and thick washer the trunnion won't move backwards at all..........I just sweated buckets and got scared I would pull the whole car off the jack under the arm (yes it was on an axle stand as well) . There must be a knack ...

Re: removing front damper
Yes, that's what I did. It came off very easily by removing damper bolts and wiggling forwards off the trunnion - the damper came through the slot in the wing with no trouble. No way could I pull the trunnion off backwards!

removing front damper
General advice is to support car on axle stands, jack up suspension arm, knock back tab washer at rear of top link pin and remove said nut, washers and rear bush, then "slide top trunnion off pin". This I could not do as not enough movement in kingpin/trunnion. I found the answer to be remo...

Re: speedometer now reads high after cable change
They are funny things. My speedo needle reads accurately up to about 40mph and then starts to oscillate. By 60mph it oscillates wildly between 40 and 80mph on the dial! Crazy!

Re: funny noise from engine
Thanks for your replies. No it is not an exhaust leak. When I said a cross between buzzing and hissing, it is nearer to buzzing - or even a very light scraping. Very difficult noise to describe. I will try the take off fanbelt and see what happens (apart from overheat!) Wondering if waterpump, dynam...

funny noise from engine
I have a mysterious new noise! It is connected to the engine but strangely doesn't rise in pitch as the engine runs faster, only slightly louder, but is most audible around 40mph (higher speeds the engine noise itself drowns it out) and disappears at tickover. Very hard noise to describe - not bangi...

Re: Exhaust Flange Damage
And don't tighten the nuts so hard they strip off their threads! I did that once when I couldn't get a seal - turned out it was a distorted pipe flange when I looked closely and all was OK again after I reformed it with a pair of pliers (and got a new nut). There's a right way and a wrong way to do ...

Re: Front Dampers.
Well, I have gone through the procedure a couple of times now and the oil flushing through looks a lot cleaner now and all seems very good on the road
Should do the rear ones, I guess. But not while this great weather lasts - off to the beach for me! thanks for all your help.

Re: Front Dampers.
No, that wasn't all that was in it....as I said, I could see the oil level in the damper and it wasn't going down, bounce as I might. You would think there was some sort of blockage. I did try blowing through the top with a piece of heater hose but no joy. I will try the syringe idea though. At wors...

Re: Front Dampers.
Well, this didn't seem to work for me. I removed both plugs and the valve assembly from the bottom and bounced - and all that came out was a dessert spoon's worth of oil. So I bounced and bounced and bounced - Tigger himself could not have bounced more - but nothing. I could see the level of oil in ...

Re: Front Dampers.
Earlier in this post someone said "When you do the Dampers,Front or rear, be aware of a spring inside the Damper, where the valve assembly comes out,it needs to come out" Is all this stuff (spring, valve assembly) likely to come out in pieces so you don't know how to put it back together ag...
