I have an old valve that I have bent the stem through 90 degrees. Just pop it in a bolt hole on the block and rest the valve head in the ring gear. To retighten, pop it in a bolthole on the other side of the engine.

Get somebody to look at the crank pulley when you push the clutch down with the engine running. I did this on a volvo some time back. It was interesting to watch the pulley move forward and back.

The alternator is short and silver. The dynamo is long and black. Is the car positive or negative earth? if it is negative, then it is probabley neg earth.
