For anyone wishing to attempt this mod, I am aware that our resident inventor/manufacturer of great Minor improvements -- Declan Burns has a 10 page PDF of how he went about doing his version. I hope he won't mine me mentioning it -- he always is generous with his help.

Re: Fuel gauge problem
You could get a 9v lamp (bulb) and try running that from the regulator A 12v dash lamp would probably do. But don't leave it illuminated (if it does) for more than a few seconds to limit stress on the regulator. It would be good to have your voltmeter wired in when doing the test to see if the volt...

I just checked a spare (black) fuel gauge (no connections)--about 60 ohms.

Re: Fuel gauge problem
It is telling that the gauge still responds as expected when connected to a 9v battery. That tells me that the windings in the gauge are intact. This tends to confirm my suspicion that the regulator may be damaged in that it is incapable of delivering its current/voltage when under load . Just to be...

Re: Brakes!
Perhaps that’s a mistake? Yes. As Phil says in his first sentence, the handbrake must be off AND the adjusters on the handbrake must be loosened off too. When you have finished the adjustments at each wheel, then readjust the handbrake. There must be no possibility that tension in the cables affect...

Re: Brakes!
Someone who is more expert than I (PTH?) will be along with a better analysis than mine. As I see it, with all the other cylinders correctly adjusted, there should be almost immediate and lengthy travel of the cylinder(s) with the drum off. (Indeed you would normally have to be careful of over-trave...

Hi. Perhaps you might spot an anomaly if you look at the gearbox rebuild guide that you can obtain from the Dorset Branch website.

Re: Brakes!
It does seem that the cylinders on one side aren't working properly. Have you tried taking the drum off that side and watch what happens when an assistant gently eases the brake pedal down? Do you see the expected movement of both cylinders?

Re: Fuel gauge problem
What a frustrating problem. You say that you have put a 9v battery across the gauge but have you tried the output of the voltage regulator and earth direct across the gauge (no other circuitry involved)? Sometimes a power source will deliver the required voltage but negligible current. That is stabi...

Re: Compression test
I have no way of telling if this is a high or low compression engine, any ideas? If the engine number is no longer on the block, it could be because the engine has been reconditioned. It is removed when the deck is skimmed. So even if it is a van engine, there is a good possibility that it has had ...

Re: Compression test
I see that you are referring to a van engine. If it is a 1098, it would have left the factory with low compression pistons (they have a larger dish). So the power would be expected to be a bit lower than for saloons--although I have seen comments from other owners that they haven't noticed much diff...

Re: Newbie member: first Morris incoming in 2 weeks!
My 1098 saloon seems to be in very good mechanical condition, but unlike the reports above I have to use 1st gear nearly every time I start from stationary. Further, I often need to slip the clutch a fair bit to move away. I can only think that it is because it has fairly big tyres (155/80 on standa...

Hi
Don
I think it will be a handle with a couple of suction cups fixed to it so that it can be attached to a sheet of glass. Then it is easy to manoeuver the glass into position.what is a glass handle and what does it do?

Unless it is the silent kindNo farting in public
I admit that my 1098 saloon, although rather noisy in the exhaust department, does not do the much coveted fart. I find that rather disappointing.

...and if you didn't get a gearstick with your ribbed case gearbox, note that you cannot use the smoothcase one. The part that goes into the selector extension assembly is different. You will need to get a ribbed case one.
