Re: Government Alerts

Thanks Simon, it's important that such info is shared.

Given the number of people who have difficulty finding or using their settings, here's the link to the Video that Simon mentioned https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2MBcHwmiy8

Re: New screw on oil filter

The problem isn't the parts, it's the installer..... So I have seen all info and I can clearly see I should be fitting the early sprite/ midget spin on as shown by one of the members earlier the moggy spin on clearly doesn't fit the aperture.i get a feeling my engine is not original????. You'...

Re: Interior Originality?

I'd recommend getting a copy of 'Original Morris Minor' by Ray Newell as all the changes are documented in there.
Alternatively, a bit harder work but cheaper, download a free copy of AKD 3541 and work it all out yourself from the various change points. http://www.spridgetguru.com/AKD3541.html

Hilarious. Definitely no switch to negative earth. Look up the Lucas “Prince of Darkness” reasons before you gleefully take the [Don't swear or you will be banned - Admin]. I will never change to the satanic negative earth. No radio, no ancillaries of any sort. The car was made positive earth. Chan...

Re: New screw on oil filter

I'm thinking I need the mg screw on it looks the same as old body You've totally lost me with your photos of what you took off. It's the replacement one you've fitted we're trying to help you with. You brought a kit which included a Filter, plus a New Mounting and 2 new Studs with nylock Nuts. Have...

Why have you done this? Put it back exactly as it was Yet only a few weeks ago you posted.... Timing chain is notorious for rattling. A duplex chain may be an improvement. It certainly improved mine. So it's OK for you to make a change of Timing Chain from Single to Duplex, but you disagree with 'D...

Re: Change in wiper motor bkt.

Change should be listed in parts books, anyone have an AKD showing the engine number when the oil to paper air filter altered....have a load of 1958-1959 chassis/engine nos combinations on our database, shouldn't be THAT difficult to translate engine to chassis nos Chris The AKD3541 can be download...

Sorry. Can’t help anyone who changes to the devil. Negative earth!!! I’d help you with the CORRECT positive earth, I cannot understand a thing once it has meddled with and is completely unoriginal You're not even managing to use the quote function correctly, no wonder you can't cope with Negative E...

Re: Car not starting

With electronic ignition, each system is different, so you need to check the instructions; but I expect that the white/black lead is not used and the leads from the electronic unit will go red to +ve coil and black to -ve coil, BUT CHECK INSTRUCTIONS FIRST. I agree with a small caveat. It has the a...

Re: New screw on oil filter

Would I be correct to say the threads are very different on either end of the studs... :-? No chance you've fitted them the wrong way around? My car had one fitted when I brought it, so I've no experience of fitting the kit, but mine is leak free.... ( the Rocker Cover however is another question......

Re: Cold start Yes - Hot start No! Asdvice sought please.

It seems a bit odd that it runs OK and doesn't cut out on you, but if you stop it, accidentally or intentionally, it won't restart. :-? Stephen's comments are all valid, but before going down a fuel problem route, I would add a quick check to see if you actually have spark, because you haven't said ...

Re: No, its NOT a Beetle

Sadly, it's more of a commentary on the poor observation capabilities of people. Back in the Eighties I started a new job and after a short period, I drove my black two door to work. Then a few weeks later, I drove my white convertible. A few people asked me if it was the same car that I had painte...

Re: No, its NOT a Beetle

We had a multi coloured Beetle up the road and a neighbour told me there was a car just like mine "up there" I gave him a lecture on Hitler's car for the people and then the development of the minor by a refugee from Smyrna. Ironically A refugee that Hitler would probably have had murdere...

Re: Starter motor problems

Hi George according to all the reference materials I have, never having owned a Side Valve myself, is that the Lucas M35G was the starter for all Minors. (Although I noted the Workshop Manual says later cars had a M35J; but that's perhaps a pre-engaged version for the key start cars) See this fitmen...

Re: Fitting Convertible Seatbelts

Fitting front belts to the convertible is the same as the 2 dr.
There was never a requirement for rear belts in the original lifespan of the Minor.
Instructions, with drawings, are in Section R of the Workshop Manual.

You're spot on Berni. I sometimes drop into the Facebook page and some of the questions (and answers) are frightening! The trouble is, as tempting as it may be to give examples here of the utter buffoonery of people on the facebook group, this message board is open for people to see, or heaven forb...

Re: Any tips for a new member?

I strongly recommend getting a 'proper' workshop manual, i.e. a paper copy of the BMC one. It is downloadable from a few places, but not the sort of thing you want to be reading too much on a phone. I have both, I can look things up in the manual and then if I need to print of relevant pages to take...
