Re: trafficator switch/steering wheel
Although the switch pictured above would have been correct for your 1957 car Mr Firedrake, it would NOT be correct for a 1960 model. The later type of self cancelling indicator stalk with the green warning light on the end was introduced in March 1959. (Chassis number 705622 according to the parts b...

Re: trafficator switch/steering wheel
Assuming your car was a UK supplied car, the trafficators on a 1960 model (there is no such thing as "original flashing trafficators", the trafficators simply lifted up, lit up, and then went down when switched off) were operated by the column switch with a green warning lamp on the end. ...

Re: trafficator switch/steering wheel
Yes it is, jaekl mentions the relay you would require. It is a Lucas DB 10. NO!! That isn't what you require to get the trafficators and the flashers to work off the same switch! That is the relay used to make the brakelights flash instead of adding orange indicators. The DB10 relay is nothing to d...

Re: Rear heated window (Traveller)
The top piece has a slot cut into it to retain the glass. The glasses are simply slid up into that slot from beneath and the 3 fillets retain it in position. As you say, the glass has to be sealed all the way round
It was probably just old sealer which was holding the glass in position.

Re: Longevity of front tie bars
I have never had to replace a tiebar on any of my own Minors! I do know that they can wear at the front if the bushes become worn and the tiebar effectively becomes slack, so they should be checked from time to time. When the bushes are badly worn, the metal tiebar rubs against the chassis mounting ...

To be realistic, you'd have to expect to do a bit of work to any 64year old vehicle you buy for a couple of grand I think  . It looks to have had a later engine (948 perhaps?) fitted at some point. Finding an air cleaner isn't going to be difficult is it. Finding the chrome inserts for the win...

Re: 1968 MM Pick Up Chasss Number help
Find yourself a friendly garage or car parts factor who have a DVLA link. They will be able to tell you the chassis number for your vehicle if the chassis plate is missing  Strictly speaking, it is the sellers responsibility to provide you with a V5 and he should have applied for one prior to ...

Re: Insanity and indicator switches
Since it was Aug '61 when the changed from Trafficators to early Indicators happened, is that when they introduced the first Stalk on the column? No. All Minor 1000s were built with a column stalk to operate the direction indicators - regardless of whether they were trafficators or flashing indicat...

Re: Insanity and indicator switches
Hopefully you have got it sorted now! Confusion exists because you are trying to fit a later switch (with 6 wires) to a 1961 car where the original switch only had 4 wires. My similar age car still has the original 4 wire switch which matches the wiring diagram for a car of that age. Most 1961 cars ...

Re: Strip down - rust?
What we can see will just be the tip of the iceberg. Those inner wings have had a great deal of patching and full replacement will be the best answer. Replacing he flange above them which the wing itself bolts to, is a tricky repair but will be necessary to obtain a good standard of repair. Make sur...

Re: Story of a Swedish Moggie, 2 door 1959 (with videos)
A great shame but, as you say, nobody was hurt and a car can be mended. Some years ago I owned a Morris Traveller with that same flashing brakelight direction indicator system. Several times I almost got run into when indicating and had many other drivers sound their horns and shake fists at me :oop...

Re: Morris making a comeback
An ambitious project! And because it will be a new vehicle, it will surely have to pass all sorts of regulations?? as opposed to the "new" electric Minis and MGBs etc which actually use an old V5 document and identity to get around this I believe. I hope it is a better vehicle to drive tha...

Still, as I've said before, my Minor 1000 is also original and has not had any unleaded conversion. It is used more or less everyday and has taken us on foreign holidays and is only ever run on the cheapest supermarket fuel without any additives...... It has been used this way for years, runs withou...

I remain pretty certain that your car is the age you suggest. However, all the blue seats and interior trim are from a later (post October 1964) model.

Re: Deluxe?
I can only speak of UK home market cars where the stainless door tops have nothing to do with the deluxe specification. In the UK, all Minor 1000 2door saloons and convertibles were supplied with painted door tops. All 4door saloons were supplied with stainless door tops and all Travellers were supp...

I didn't wish to confuse things by mentioning leather seat facings as the question was specifically about a 1966 car.
Leather seat facings applied to the deluxe version only upto October 1961.

Re: Hub nut removal problems
As Phil says, the shallow nuts don't help removal and I have never had much success with conventional sockets. It is important to ensure that the lock washer is released of course and I too use a spanner similar to that in the Bull Motif link which I find does a good job.
