Re: 1948 MM arrived

Now that I've been driving my 1948 MM for a month, I've now received its Heritage certificate, which confirms she's a December '48 model, and all the numbers (engine, rear axle body, chassis, key) are correct, as is the colour. At the risk of getting a bit too nerdy, I'm curious if anyone knows if t...

Re: 1948 MM arrived

Here are a couple of pics of the gear knob as requested. It has a real patina of age, so may well be original.

Re: 1948 MM arrived

I'm going to have to ferret around behind the firewall (bulkhead) to check the correct shade. I think it was resprayed 20 years ago; it always was maroon. It's actually a very dark marron, bergundy wine colour. I had a maroon B Morris in the 1970s and it was much redder. Photo of gearknob on way, bu...

Re: 1948 MM arrived

More pics.
I'm fascinated by the earliest cars, does anyone know how many 1948s are out there and how many have the very early rear lights?

1948 MM arrived

Hi there, I thought I'd share some pictures of my newly acquired car, a 1948 series MM 2 door saloon. I'd love to get more history, I do know its a December 1948 car, first registered in Victoria in April 1949, long boat journey no doubt caused the delay. It was first registered NA888. Sadly in Aust...

Re: Recent acquisition

Goodness, £5,500 seems “top dollar” to me, I’ve decided to sell my green MM on gumtree, for almost exactly that amount, but in much better condition: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/rose-park/cars-vans-utes/morris-minor-lowlight/1264195701 To make room for my maroon car. Happy Christmas everyone, Ri...

Re: Recent acquisition

By the way, this car was unearthed and bought by me last week. A 1948 model and maybe the 12th oldest MM and therefore Issigonis Minor in the world. More photos when I get it home. Those rear lights are rare!

Re: Recent acquisition

Hi George, Yes I’ve driven the car, including today. It doesn’t have the original engine, and it is USHM3. It didn’t have the optional heater, and the two holes with rubber blanking grommets are common to all cars, I think. It’s a sweet little engine, and of course has very leisurely acceleration co...

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/north-plympton/cars-vans-utes/1949-morris-minor-low-light/1259064071 This would be an interesting car. I’ve not seen it yet but spoke to the owner, it’s been in dry storage for 40 years and lived here in Adelaide all it’s life ( the driest state in the driest continen...

Re: Recent acquisition

Thanks for the interest. I’ve only had the car for a few days and can’t believe I didn’t notice the bare negative battery cable. That issue is fixed! Being chassis number around 75,000 I’m guessing it’s a late 1950 model, maybe November or December (will get the info from the Heritage Records in due...

Recent acquisition

Attached are a couple of pictures of a 1950 MM from NSW and newly registered here in Adelaide. Australia luckily has salt free roads so rust is often not an issue.

Re: Where is that car now?

Thanks for that. Interesting to note one vehicle I owned, DRE 566E, an almond green tourer, was last registered in 2012, so maybe it’s off the road. If the owner is out there I have some great pictures of a tour of Portugal the car did in 1985!

Re: Where is that car now?

Hi Des911, I’ve acquired the car from NSW and it’s being transported to Adelaide next week. I hope to do my own maintenance as I did in the 1970s and 80s, then because I was broke but now for fun! I’ve not seen the car, so will soon find out if it’s as good as it sounds. As soon as I have it here wi...

Where is that car now?

Hi there, I'm Richard Barnes, now living in Adelaide, Australia. I've re joined the club after a gap of 37 years! I've also just acquired a 1950 Series MM but more on that another time. I owned several Minors when I lived in the UK, at least 2 I suspect might still be alive and well. Hence I have so...
