Re: Rolling Road
Ok thanks, looks like £100-150 for a session. Is that right in anyone's experience? As a starter for 10, I'm going to put a BDL needle (MG Metro) in my HIF44. Planning also on fitting a Piper MB270 camshaft, I will get my existing camshaft reground to this spec, as it's cheaper, and allows me to ret...

Rolling Road
Hi all,
What can I expect to pay for a session on a rolling road, to identify the optimum needle & dashpot spring? I have a modified 1275 ex-Marina engine, with ex-Metro big valve head, currently planning to use an HIF44.
Can anyone recommend one in the Bristol area?
Cheers Neil

Re: Vacuum take off on Minisport manifold
Well, a 3mm thick rubber washer under the filter box on the side nearest the manifold lifts the box enough to clear the banjo bolt, and the box still fits just enough into the carb air intake to seal, but that's with only one copper washer under the banjo bolt. Add another and it won't clear, but I ...

Re: Vacuum take off on Minisport manifold
Make a hole in the base of the air cleaner just sufficiently large enough to allow the base of the air cleaner to fit over the bolt head. It will not effect the air cleaning ability or increase the induction noise. The thinnest banjo union I can find which is suitable for adapting/modification to f...

Re: Vacuum take off on Minisport manifold
Hmm. I got hold of an oil transfer pipe, and fitted it into the manifold, with my banjo bolt. The mini air filter box still won't go over it. The banjo and bolt stands about 5mm proud. It's mounted on an HIF38 carb, with a heat shield off an HIF44. So..... What other options are there? I'm reluctant...

Re: Oil pump cover-1275 ex-Marina engine
The 1275cc engine oil pump cover is not soldered in place. Only the 803cc/948cc oil pump cover has to be soldered in place and that is only because the thin pressed steel rear engine plate has a tendency to warp and leak oil. The 1275cc oil pump cover just fits into the oil pump aperture of the 127...

Re: Oil pump cover-1275 ex-Marina engine
Ok thanks Phil. When I last had the engine apart I did use a bit of blue sealant, and it does not appear to have leaked. I'll refit it with a smear of grease this time. I'm only asking about the oil pump because I'm thinking of fitting a Kent camshaft. They only supply with slot drives, and I have a...

Oil pump cover-1275 ex-Marina engine
Hi all. What's the consensus on refitting the oil pump cover? I have a Marina 1275 engine in my Minor. The BMC manual says it should be soldered in place, but that's going to need a blow lamp and presumably plumbers solder. Can I use blue gasket sealer instead? Also, is it possible to modify an oil ...

Re: Speedometer drive pinions
No, haven't lost it, I was just pondering that if the pinions were different for different back axle ratios, it would be an easy way to re-calibrate the speedo for a 3.9:1 diff. Obviously not!

Speedometer drive pinions
Are speedometer drive pinions the same on Minors, Midgets, Sprites etc? Do the ratios differ for different rear diff ratios?

May the fourth
Today seems like an appropriate day to share this. For all you non-Star Wars geeks, here's Weird Al telling the tale of The Phantom Menace. May the fourth be with you!

Re: Gearbox woes
So this arrived today. IMG_20190502_205818~2.jpg I rang the people who supply these to Minisport, a company called Guesswork. They confirmed that it is suitable for a Minor 1098 1st gear hub. At £30 it's not cheap, but I reckon if I try the cable tie method I stand a good chance of losing the balls ...

I have some spare gears and might have one.
