Re: Gearbox woes

Minisport actually sell a tool for fitting sync springs and balls, but I'm not sure it'll work on the Minor, and I'm loathe to shell out £30 then find it's no good.

Re: Gearbox woes

Thanks Phil for the reply. In fact, I've just found that ESM sell a 0.132-0.133 washer as well, so I might try that. Ok, 2 more questions. First-do I replace the 1st gear? As you can hopefully see in the photo, a couple of the teeth are pretty rough, with sharp edges where pieces have broken off. Do...

Re: Gearbox woes

Ok thanks, I'll go ahead and rebuild.
Moss do 3 or 4 sizes of rear thrust washer. I have a 2A3027, which is 0.131", I got from Moss Bristol. It's in the catalogue, but maybe not online.

Re: Gearbox woes

I thought the endfloat was 0.003"? The Haynes manual says 0.003".

Re: Gearbox woes

Ok, reassembly is starting now. Checking the laygear endfloat, I have the largest washer available, 0.131", and still have more than 0.003" play. I haven't renewed the front washer or the laygear, just the rear washer. I can get a 0.004" feeler gauge in there. Not tried anything large...

No, I can't see one on there.

Re: Vacuum take off on Minisport manifold

Thanks all.
I will order an oil pipe banjo and bolt, that seems to be the easiest way.
I've looked online all over, but not found a right angle take off anywhere. I got an upright one from a local pipe fitting shop, but it's too tall.

Vacuum take off on Minisport manifold

I have a Minisport manifold on a 1275, with a mini type pancake air filter, and an HIF44 carb. There is only about 2cm clearance underneath the filter box, and there isn't room for the vacuum take off that I have. Can anyone recommend an alternative please? Pics below. Thanks, Neil IMG_20190424_2130...

Dash cam and reversing cam

Has anyone installed a dashcamera and reversing camera in Minor, preferably in the same unit?

I'm looking for something to fit in my Traveller

Re: Gearbox woes

Think I've found the distance piece. It was wedged inside the laygear. I think the inner circlip is missing. Is that the distance piece in the bottom left of the photo?

Re: Gearbox woes

No sign of a distance piece anywhere. Here is a photo of the rear end of the laygear. IMG_20190416_221807~2.jpg The bearing is visible inside the laygear. The top of the bearing is about 5mm below the circlip groove, and 8mm below the end of the laygear. Is this where the bearing should sit with the...

Ok thanks. Either it wasn't there, or it fell out as I removed the laygear. I'll have a look on the garage floor tonight.

Re: Gearbox woes

I'm starting to rebuild the box now. I have all I need except the rear laygear thrust washer, which is on order. The layshaft and layshaft bearings are being replaced, but I don't have either the circlip or the distance piece. I don't recall either coming out when I dismantled it. Do new laygear bea...

Re: Gearbox woes

Success, I managed to get the first motion bearing off the shaft. I heated it in the oven at 100deg C for 15min, then held it in a vice, wrapped in a welding glove. I then used a thin drift to tap all around the bearing. It slowly moved over the threads, then dropped off. So the gearbox is now compl...

Re: Gearbox woes

Managed to get it out by removing the circlip, then gently tapping the bearing back through the aperture. I then spent 1/2hr tapping away with a drift on the lock nut, which eventually came loose.
Next question-how do I remove the bearing from the 1st motion shaft?

Re: Gearbox woes

There is a spring circlip on the outer race of the bearing that needs removing so the shaft can be withdrawn. Have you seen this ? http://www.dorsetmmoc.co.uk/wordpress/tech_articles/Gearbox%20rebuild.pdf Phil I have seen that, thank you, and very good it is too, but it doesn't deal with the strip ...
