Re: 948 Gearbox mated to 1098 Engine
The Heritage Certificate won't be able to confirm the registration number of the car as this was allocated after it left the factory and dealers just didn't send that sort of info back to Cowley. The reg no was allocated by the forerunner of DVLA so as long as the car is on their system - and I have...

Re: Fathers'Day at Bo'ness Steam railway
Now that's tempting, Roy! Lincolnshire to Bo'ness = 620 miles round trip guess that would be a good shake down run for the convertible and identify any issues prior to a visit to NI for the Regional rally in August! I'm gonna think hard about that one!!

Re: 948 Gearbox mated to 1098 Engine
Sometimes the older memories remain but recent ones cannot be recalled. Hope you find something out. Very easy to write 0 and 1 similarly so my bet would be on a transcribing error somewhere along the way. The old log books were hand written. When these were entered into the 'computer' errors did oc...

Re: 948 Gearbox mated to 1098 Engine
Probably an error was made when the old log book was transcribed onto the DVLA system. Obtain a Heritage certificate which can then be used to go back to the DVLA to have the current log book rectified if necessary. It is possible, of course, that the car was built in June 1960 and for some reason w...

Re: 948 Gearbox mated to 1098 Engine
Yes sorry I missed that - your car does appear to be earlier than June 61 if the number is as you say. Sometimes worth checking the VIN plate very closely to ensure you have the correct numbers as these do tend to suffer from rust obscuring/changing the look of numbers. Also check the number stamped...

Re: re Seat dilemma
These are reckoned to be a very comfortable alternative to the norm and the rear seats fit a saloon too. Probably a bit pricey though :-\ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-200-BRM-SEATS-DOOR-CARDS-CARPET-RED-LEATHER-25-200-MG-ZR-/310892857245?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4862a8879d

Re: 948 Gearbox mated to 1098 Engine
One owner cars are getting rarer and rarer so it's really good that you are saving this one :-) If you also have any of the original literature - such as the passport to service record, drivers handbook, lubrication charts etc. and possibly the original tool kit, wrapped in a plastic or canvas bag a...

Re: 948 Gearbox mated to 1098 Engine
Trafficators were discontinued in August '61 (car no 925448 - 4 dr, 925555 - 2 dr, 925679 - Trav, 926579 - conv), 948 engine discontinued September '62 ( 990288 - 2dr, 990283 - 4dr, 990289 - Trav, 989679 - conv) If you are interested in restoring back to original spec, a copy of Original Morris Mino...

Re: 948 Gearbox mated to 1098 Engine
Great to see your enthusiasm :-) and well done on the free 1098 box. That certainly sounds like a great piece of luck and it looks in excellent condition too. As to value, a fully rebuilt 1098 engine by a professional company is going to cost between £600-£700 or more and a new box, from a specialis...

Re: 948 Gearbox mated to 1098 Engine
If you do decide to change the diff for a later one, be aware that the later diff for a 1098 has the oil filler in the axle case wheras the earlier diff - the one that is probably in your car - will have the oil filler in the diff unit itself. If, when you look under the car from the rear, you canno...

Re: Engine Mayo?
Agree with Drivewasher - short journeys - esp in cooler weather - are a great recipe for A-series mayonnaise :-) Choose a day a week and take the long way home so the engine gets properly hot. If you do, mayonnaise will only be something you see in the supermarket :-) Just check that there are no ob...

Re: tourer for sale on car and classic
Yes Frank if it IS a 51 it would have highlight front wings which were introduced in January '51. My guess (without seeing the chassis number) would be that it is a 49 but that someone has fitted the later fixed side screen. Alternatively it COULD be a 51 that has had the earlier front wings and gri...

Re: tourer for sale on car and classic
Yes, David, it should have the removable side screens - according to the data these changed to fixed side screens in June 1951. Nice project though but VERY expensive.
