I think you will find that larger valve clearance will give a shorter valve opening but the valve head will be in contact with the valve seat longer so in theory it will run cooler.

Rogerowen, I used an inside micrometer, reason for new drums was external rust and previous owners use of large hammers to remove drums and half the rim flanges!!. The bores were ok only 0.010inch wear. smithskids

I have used ESMs Mintex on my MM and Pickup and they seemed ok the problem I had was with the new front brake drums for the pickup. They were 7 7/8inch dia. instead of 8 inches so I had to remachine them out to 8 inches to get the new shoes in. They are ok now.

Don't lubricare the gears just the pivot points. If you want to clean it remove the hands and dial, suspend the movement over a bowl of highly volatile cleaner , not in it, and leave it for a day then lubricate the pivot points with very thin clock oil and like the man says don't over wind it

Don't even think about a model Y. The mechanical brakes and transverse leaf spring will frighten the life out of you. I had a similar choice in 1970 and chose the Morris 8 series I. We still have ours and it is still up and running

Looks like the steel brake shoes are the wrong diameter to me . the linings look the same thickness all round. May be an optical illusion though. Worth checking.

On the MM tourer the trafficator wires run from the rear loom on R.H. side of boot back inside the top of the wheel arches and inside the sill then up to each trafficator. Has any one noticed the boot lids on the earlier cars are much heavier than the Minot 1000s?
