Re: L.E.D in the number plate light
I've used this guy many times always good value and got everything ordered (but may take some time) http://stores.ebay.com/warden-jp2002?_rdc=1 NB: go for the 'warm white' to get a better replacement for bulbs, the other white LEDs can look a little blue and I was ticked off by mr MOT for the wrong ...

Re: Battery puzzle - 35Ah vs 45Ah?
capacity = how much is in there, linked pretty clearly to physical size and weight crank current = maximum current you can draw at once, linked to the way the battery is wired (and a little to the size) these are roughly independant. there is nothing wrong with puting a larger capacity in, it won't ...

Re: Unexplained engine cut out
sounds exactly like a friends car. we looked over it for hours checking coils, pumps, etc.... in the end I found it to be the rotor arm, a bad batch had been going around and fitting a new lucas branded one solved the problem. the one we replaced showed no signs of failure at all, but clearly it had...

Re: Brake lights & fog light
fog lights should NOT be used in heavy rain/spray they are for use in fog when visibility is below 100m. Heavy rain or spray may look like reduced visibility from the drivers perspective but a car many hundreds of meters behind and outside your spray WILL be dazzled by them. Some police forces in th...

Re: Ignition warning light comes on when I rev!?!
can indicate that the brushes and contacts in the dynamo are very worn or/and that the bearing in the dynamo are shot. Had this fault in the mini: at low revs the dynamo worked ok producing a reasonable charge, but as you spin it faster the charge level drops (so the light starts to come on esp. wit...

Re: Lizzy gets a makeover
I've not worked out total costs or per job costs yet (not sure that I ever will!) and it difficult to say because the whole car came apart so doing these things made sense since it was almost down to cost of parts. (not like your nasty modern car garages where they cost each job and add up the total...

Re: Starting woes
were the plugs fouled? gapped correctly? etc...
are the HT leads Ok? (swapping the plugs might simply have given you a better HT connection)
I've always found that changing the HT leads every couple of years really improves running

Re: Lizzy gets a makeover
well yes it does, but thats just seeing her naked and in parts! nothing extra has come up so far, the front of the engine bay is a bit of a mess but that is an easy part to renew, boot floor is as expected along with rear inner wings (both the reason for starting the job) given the mess in the drive...
