Re: electric fault

For the main beam warning light, check if there is a small rubber boot between the place where the bulb clips in and the warning light outlet on the face of the speedo. If it is not there, or displaced, there may be some stray light from the speedo illumination lamps leaking through thus showing the...

Re: Vauxhall Chevette front hubs

The set up I have on my truck, at the moment, gives me 7 full turns of thread engagement in the wheel nut.The certifier noted this as the minimum. The mag wheels I have require a 6mm spacer to clear the kingpin. On the rear, with no spacer, there is 12 full turns of engagement in the nut. The front ...

Re: Vauxhall Chevette front hubs

I have just been to a certifier, in Chch NZ, yesterday. One of the many tests was the thread engagement of the wheel nuts. With the combination of mag wheels/nuts and std studs, I was right on the minimums for thread engagement in the nuts. To use the modified Marina hub and insert you may need to u...

Re: advice

I sealed up the area between the dash vents and dash opening from underneath with some closed cell foam. It made a noticeable difference, especially to the heat of the dashboard top which was a lot cooler. Much better having the hot air going to the screen.

Re: Starter Bendix sticks

I found the graphite didn't last long and did not stop the rust happening. The bendix still stuck to the big spring. The Dry Glide coating dries very dry. You would not know it was there, apart from the surface being slipperier. To quote from the web site- "Ideal for lubrication in dusty enviro...

Re: Starter Bendix sticks

I had the same thing happening on mine, bendix sticking to the spring. At first it was old gunk + dust causing the sticking on the spiral groves. Stripping the bendix and totally cleaning it helped for a while and then it was into a cycle of occasionally sticking, usually at the petrol station. I wa...

Re: Sudden increase in noise!

An update on this. The manifold, a big bore type from Marina/Allegro is now replaced and seems fine now. Time will tell. It took a while to find a replacement. There were a few available but all had the flange area broken, one having been repaired and then re-broken. One was still attached but on cl...

Re: Crash Testing

Some years ago, I felt a really solid rear end collision at an intersection. It was another Morris Minor. No damage to either car, the bumper springs did their job. Same car, a few months later, near the same place, same thing. This time it wasn't a Minor. I can't remember what it was, but he hooked...

Re: Sudden increase in noise!

The manifold's previous history is unknown. It is a big bore type from a Marina 1275, had only just been fitted and a new front pipe made at an exhaust shop. I only drove a handful of miles, not quite home, before the bang happened. The fracture originally was clean and shiny so it looks like it all ...

Re: Coasting to a stop

I had the same symptoms on a previous car. It would just randomly stop and after stopping to try and see the fault, and not finding it, it would restart like normal. Eventually the fault was traced to the electric pump which was "sticky." I found that turning the key off and on again unstu...

The telescopic rear shocks might get in the way of a saloon exhaust.

Re: Morris minors in films and TV shows.

There was a Minor Traveller in the movie "Caprica", it appeared in a couple of scenes. There is also a brief view of the back of a Minor 1000 in the movie "Signs" just as the alien was seen for the first time.

Re: What do you think??

165/80x13 has very close to the same rolling diameter as the original tyres, 520x14. Also, not being low profile, they tend to handle road "irregularities" in a kinder fashion. On the down side, they are not as precise in their handling. It is all a matter of personal driving style and cho...

Re: An American Moggie ~ My '59 Morris Minor 1000 2-door saloon

Another thing to try might be to temporarily disconnect or block the PCV system and see if the oil use changes. One thing that may be a factor is how the connection is made to the rocker cover. What type of oil trap or baffle is present. Some covers have none. You only want to be sucking fumes and m...

Re: Horrible customer service

I ordered some parts a while ago from a well know UK supplier. They took a very long time to get here, NZ. The supplier had left the "New Zealand " part of the shipping address out. The parcel went to Canada, back to UK, and finally someone at Royal Mail somehow worked out what the destina...

Re: Boris 1964 2 door saloon

The original 1098 air cleaner housing is unfortunately a bit restrictive, even for the HS2. The tube is the main culprit, but this is the main way it silences the intake. You might be better off looking for a Mini or Metro air cleaner that sits horizontally and connects to the carb with an elbow. It...

Re: Boris 1964 2 door saloon

It is possible to modify the original air cleaner mounting plate to fit the HIF 38. That way you will loose the induction noise.
If you feel so inspired, the new choke cable sold at ESM, and others, is longer than the one on the car and fits the HIF.

This might help -

It does have a small bore hole but there is room to enlarge it.
