Re: New brakes etc, funny burning smell & front wheels get hot

but I would have thought he'd have taken the drums off to clean it and check everything was OK at least. Yes, so did I, I mean I would have wanted to check and I'm no expert, but as I said, he would never admit to have done anything wrong. And, yes mike.perry, up till now I don['t seem to have had ...

Re: New brakes etc, funny burning smell & front wheels get hot

I love this forum! Thanks for posting! Ok, to the wheel bearings, the front right makes a sort of rumbling noise, when it's turned and also wobbles. Just thinking why didn't I notice the heat and smell before they changed the brakes? I live in deepest darkest Wales (near Carmarthen) and as I'm a wom...

Re: Having a go at welding

Following this post with great interest, as I would love to learn how to weld, but could do with somebody showing me how to get started. My poor Morris has been badly neglected the past few years and now I'm paying the price for it, RUST!!!!! Need to do something about it now or pay someone to do it...

Re: New brakes etc, funny burning smell & front wheels get hot

At last an update! I went through all the suggestions, coasting, I found the car slowed down much faster, going down a slope where I normally always have to use the brakes, I didn't have to use them once. At the garage, the mechanic didn't really want to believe me of course, but had a look anyway a...

Re: New brakes etc, funny burning smell & front wheels get hot

Thank you soooo much! I've never used this garage before, only did it because a friend of mine kept nagging me, he thought they were good with old cars. Will never change garages again. Thanks for all the tips, will go through all of them and then take the car back. Will keep you posted. Thanks again!

New brakes etc, funny burning smell & front wheels get hot

Hi, need some advice here, please. The brake shoes and cylinders front and back have just been replaced, plus the master cylinder and handbrake cables. I can't remember if you get a strange overheated metal burn smell with new brake shoes? And again I can't remember how the new brakes felt like last...

Re: Noisy gearbox and jumping out of gear

Ok, thanks for the info, wow wish I had all your knowledge! Or even a little bit, all I know is gathered from few books. Funny thing was when I had the crunching sound into first it went smoothest when I could change into first while the car was still moving, not fast, but sort of rolling. Will be c...

Re: Noisy gearbox and jumping out of gear

Hi, thanks so much for getting back to me. Good to hear a second opinion, was hoping against hope, there was an easy cure.... Yeah, I did check the oil, was hoping it could be as simple as that, but it's all fine. About a couple of years ago the clutch needed to be re-adjusted, I had asked the mecha...

Noisy gearbox and jumping out of gear

Hi there, I had a reconditioned gearbox put in my Morris in 2005, so am really worried that it has started to by rather noisy and whiny in 3rd gear and a few days ago started jumping out of gear in 2nd and 3rd. The local garage says I need a new gearbox  How can I have killed a gearbox in this ...

Re: speed cameras

I just got my first speed ticket, apparently I was doing 35 in a 30 area - you're driving downhill into a small town and they've stuck the speed camera just behind the 30mph sign...Got the pics and everything, no sympathy shown, just following the rules I've now got the choice of a £60 fine and 3 po...
