Re: Slight axle leak. Advice please.

I've had a look but haven't found them yet, I'll have another look this morning. I've checked & cleaned the main breather on the diff housing.

Oil for axle

Hi.
Is it acceptable to use EP80/90 GL5 oil in the rear axle instead of the EP90 that's recommended in the manual?
I have plenty of 80/90 to hand but I'm struggling to get EP 90 locally, will the thinner oil make it more likely to leak?
Thanks.
Neil.

Scuttle panels (interior trim)

Hi all. I recently bought new front scuttle panels (the interior trim panels by your feet in the footwells), they have a flap of material loose along the edge that meets the door, is this to wrap around the edge of the door frame & the door draught excluder put back in place over the top to hold...

Re: Slight axle leak. Advice please.

Confused now :-? . I've bought new paper gaskets & O-rings to cure my weep at the hub flange, but I was talking to a friend tonight & he said that I'd definitely need to change the main seals too as if they weren't leaking there'd be no oil getting past to leak through the paper gasket. Is h...

Re: Slight axle leak. Advice please.

I'm pretty sure it's only leaking as I've disturbed the paper gasket whilst removing the drum as it didn't seem to leak before but to be on the safe side I think I'll get a new paper gasket & o-ring and change them both before I put the car on the road.

Re: Slight axle leak. Advice please.

It only seemed to start weeping from the flange after I took the drum off & I had to give the drum a few taps with a soft mallet to remove it. Do you think I might just have made the paper seal leak a bit by removing the drum?

Slight axle leak. Advice please.

Hi all. Just as I'm getting close to getting my morris back on the road another problem jumps up to bite me on the backside :( . I was fitting new drums today & adjusting the brakes, when I removed the rear drivers side drum I noticed that the flange that the drum sits on is oily (gearbox oil sm...

Re: Oil light staying on

Further investigations today found that there was no oil from the pressure switch hole when spinning the engine  . So I removed the pipe from the oil filter housing where it bolts onto the engine & poured some oil into the engine there while turning the engine & that has done the trick ...

Seat differences, series 2/1000

Hi all. I have a pair of passenger seats for the front of my 1966 Minor 1000, which means neither have the adjuster handle. I picked up a cheap very scruffy drivers seat in the hope that I could transfer the covers off one of my front passenger seats onto it so I have a pair of matching seats with a...

Re: Oil light staying on

Should have a new pressure switch today, so I'll try it later if it's not raining. While it's out I'll turn the engine over by hand to see if it pumps oil out.

Water pump recommendations

I think a new waterpump is imminent on my Morris, it has signs of leaking over it, although the coolant level doesn't seem to drop.
Does anyone recommend any particular pump or supplier, or is there any I should avoid.
Thanks.
Neil.

Re: Oil light staying on

I'm hoping it's not done any damage, I did run it for a few minutes but it didn't get any louder or make funny noises. The light goes off when you remove the wire from the switch so it's not a wiring fault. I've taken the pressure relief valve out today, checked it moves freely & cleaned it, put...

Oil light staying on

Hi all. Had my Morris running today for the first time in almost 2 years, and it started first time! :D The not so good news though was that the oil pressure light stayed on & wouldn't go out, obviously I checked the oil level before I started it & it was fine, the light wasn't on the last t...

Track rod end boots.

Hi. Can anyone recommend a supplier for the little track rod end boots that aren't rubbish? I bought a new track rod end 2 years ago from Bull motif & fitted it. The car hasn't been driven since as it's been undergoing work, when I was underneath yesterday I noticed that the rubber boot on the &...
