Re: Value of our Minors
.. and how much do those batteries etc. weigh? Enough to start altering the suspension and braking system? John ;-) It all depends on what you fit according to your preferences for speed and range. As we discussed earlier the ‘Vintage Voltage’ type of conversion requires substantial modification be...

Re: Why was there no MG version of the Minor?
It looks like BMC were quite happy as it was. In the earlier cars 0-60? You could wait forever!

Re: Value of our Minors
Steam engines can be persuaded to run on all sorts of fuel. I once saw a charming film of a narrow gauge railway serving a sugar plantation and fired entirely on sugar cane waste. It worked but how well it went wasn’t touched upon. Conversion to other fuels isn’t necessarily plain sailing. A man loc...

And there’s even somebody smoking by it. I don’t know what the green lobby would say but I’m pretty sure health and safety would have kittens!

Re: Value of our Minors
I for one just don't get why you would want to convert a Minor to electric power. The whole charm of the car would be lost, you may as well just buy a modern car. Phil P You may not fancy an electric Minor but if petrol ceases to be readily available you may need an electric car for transport with ...

Re: Value of our Minors
I think a possible future route for classic cars would be relatively cheap diy electric conversion kits. Having seen ‘Vintage Voltage’ with it’s very expensive bespoke conversions the major difficulty seems to be finding room for all the batteries when the customer expects high performance and long ...

Re: Duckhams classic fuel additive or valvemaster
I’m not sure that anecdotal recommendations for these products count for very much. If you use an additive and your engine doesn’t break has the magic product saved it or maybe it wasn’t going to break anyway.

Re: What did it cost back in the day....
The 1964 show guide from Motor magazine quotes a Minor saloon price of £451, rising to £547 with purchase tax added. I haven’t got a copy for 1967 but there are old copies on eBay.

Re: Current Full Respray Cost
I would expect that the quotes above in the £2k range are to prepare and spray. Since the first post refers to a bare metal spray I would expect this to be much more as removing all the old paint involves a lot of work.

You can’t have too many tools, the secret is to store them fairly methodically so you can find them when you need them.

Re: Should I replace the whole rear inner wing with repair panel, or smaller custom patch?
I would have to disagree with you there Phil, cutting off the a post and inner wing could result in serious alignment difficulties, especially if the sills also need cutting away. I would add repair pieces to these flat sections. Provided it is well treated afterwards the repair should be durable.

Re: Mystery SU carb
Thanks gents, I had already searched on line before posting here but without conclusive result. SU do not seem to have been very consistent with marking model numbers on their carbs. The MM appears most likely. The 803 also had a 1 1/8 carb but that was semi downdraught as on all the ohv engines. If...

Mystery SU carb
In my parts hoard I have an old SU carb of unknown origin. It is a sidedraught with a 1 1/8 bore plus vertical inlet manifold flange and a horizontal air inlet flange. Marks on it are. 3457, C6, 1217e. There is no sign of the more usual AU marking. Does anyone know what it is for please? 735C0FA5-E8...

Last saloon in Minor Matters
In the previous Minor Matters there was a detailed introduction to the last saloon project, ending with it in a sad state in Derby. This month begins with a beautifully welded and painted shell having parts fitted. Surely on most cars the welding and preparation are the most challenging parts of a r...

A mobile telephone? We in the Morris Minor fraternity do not concern ourselves with such modern fripperies.

Reminds me of the Harry Enfield character with an antique shop called ‘I saw you coming’.
Sadly not so incredible in this day and age, more a sorry comment on the era in which we live.

But if dvla want to see the car presumably the transfer process has not been completed. If the dealer or previous owner wanted to keep the number they should have done this while they kept the car. The number will only have a value if it can be transferred. If transfer is allowed dvla allocate a rep...

Re: worst year for minors
The two spoke wheel has fewer naked wire spokes which might impale the driver in an accident. We have to compromise between period charm and modern standards of protection.
