Re: Modern heater valves

So is the "dead end" a known problem on a standard engine or does it only manifest itself (head overheating?) on a tuned engine. What I'm really asking I suppose, is whether I should keep my manual valve open and rely on closing the air off to prevent passengers overheating? If so I'll nee...

Re: Modern heater valves

My '68 traveller has the earlier manual screw valve fitted which is normally not an issue but occasionally it would be useful to operate it remotely. I had understood that the valves currently available were a problem in use, not just in fitting. Maybe I've misunderstood. I can make a fitting such a...

Re: engine oil

Hello All As well as the viscosity of the oil, it is important to use one with the correct detergent package. My 1935 Austin 10 has no oil filter and was designed so that the solids picked up by the oil settled out and weren't recirculated causing more wear. I use a non-detergent oil in this car as ...

Re: Door catch

Thanks for the reply. I've had another look and the spring you mention is fine. I think the problem is that the locking mechanism is worn which allows the handle to retract the locking bolt enough to clear the catch. The answer is to remove the lock and replace the worn bits. For now I've made a spa...

Door catch

Hello All Problem with passenger door locking on my traveller. The door closes properly and locks but, when locked, if the door handle is operated, the door will open as far as the second catch but no further. When locked the handle moves the catch far enough to clear the inner position but not the ...

Re: Finally got a car! TMK807F

Thanks for the replies. After seeing some very poor cars for good money, I have bought from Charles Wares. Had the car up in the air at a friend's garage today and am very pleased. Lots of new parts on suspension, steering and brakes. New exhaust and tyres. Yes you pay a price, but for someone like ...

Finally got a car! TMK807F

Hello all

After several months looking around, I have finally bought a traveller. Smoke grey, TMK807F. Anyone know it?

Re: Distributor position

Sorry to jump into this thread so late but am I understanding correctly that engine was running relatively ok about 20 deg too far advanced? Not pinking? I'm amazed. My usual way of timing an engine is to set it to the book (which was written for the fuel of the day), then advance it until the engin...

Re: Coil very hot and difficult starting

Coils come in a variety of resistances. The ones used in conjunction with some electronic ignition systems have a resistance of around 1 ohm which, if used with standard ignition will mean about 12 amps. They will get very hot. Don't ask how I know! Your coil with standard ignition needs to be 3 or ...

Re: Driving to Scotland - Any Tips?

I lived in Beckermet, just North of gosforth, for 30 years until I moved south 5 years ago. The journey you describe is horrible until j36 M6 at which point it becomes beautiful. If you get chance I would go for hardknott and wrynose. The secret on the steepest bits is to hold 1st even though 2nd is...

Re: Master cylinder reservoir cap sealing

Try a smear (just a smear!) of Automotive (not bathroom!) RTV gasket sealant on each side of the washer. Make sure all is clean and dry, fit the plug, leave for 24hrs.

Re: Mot

I owned 3 pre-60 vehicles when pre-60s became MoT exempt. They were all MoT'd and taxed at the time. When the MoTs expired I simply carried on using them without MoT then retaxed on line at the appropriate time and the system recognised that they didn't require MoTs to be retaxed. They were all reco...

Re: starter problem

When you say that it wouldn't start, do you mean nothing happened when you pulled the starter, or the starter motor turned the engine but it wouldn't start?

Re: Plus Gas vs WD40 Specialist Penetrant Spray

Plus gas is good, but, if all else fails, a 50/50 mix of acetone and auto transmission fluid is superb (though watch it on the paintwork!). You have to use it quickly as the acetone content evaporates off.

PSK 432

Hello All

Still looking for a traveller. PSK 432 is for sale and I wondered if anyone knew anything about its history. It has stickers which imply it has done at least 1 "Minors on tour" trip. Almond green.

Re: The other Minor

It will probably be the same basic engine as the DKW, Wartburg etc. Really good engine, if a little smokey. Very tuneable! 3 cyl 2-stroke, feels (and pulls) like a 6 cyl 4 stroke. No distributor, 3 sets of points and 3 coils. Vacuum operated fuel pump which failed when the diaphragm split. Usually s...
