Re: My broken engine
Is it possible to have someone removed from this forum? Seeing as I do pay for that 'said persons' additional membership fees. Have just checked big-end bearings and all is well. Centre main is also good. Not sure I can be bothered to to check the other two. All bores good. I needed to paint the eng...

Re: Gearbox recommendation - I am confused!
May I ask what Triumph gearbox that yours came from? My Dolly 1850 has the same length input shaft as the marina 1300/1800 (as well as the same size spigot input ).

My broken engine
A question to all. On my daily commute the other day, a gradual 'Tink, tink, tink' noise was audible from the engine. I thought it was the timing too advanced, so eased back a bit (3 mile journey). Anyhoo, the afore mentioned noise got worse by the time I got to work. More like a terminal crank issu...

Yes I am tempted to buy a AAB needle just to see what it goes like, as it's cheap. Did you fit it in a 'Mini'?JOWETTJAVELIN said: I have used this needle on a non-Minor HS4 with good results.

Re: Five Speed Gearbox Fitment.
Are you sure it has 26 splines on the shaft? Most British cars from this era (70's & 80's), as far as I'm aware, use the same spline and count and diameter shaft (20 and 23 spline).

Re: Five Speed Gearbox Fitment.
Does he have the Bell-housing conversion that fits the engine/gearbox together? If yes, did it come bolted together or were they purchased separately?

Re: Single Carb from Twin Carb
Out of interest has anyone tried the AAB needle in a 1.5 su? I only ask, as this seems to be a popular choice from 'minispares' shop. If you look on the 'mintylamb' comparorama website, the AAB needle is very rich. I use an AEM needle for fuel consumption reasons. Gives me 5-6 better mpg and gives m...

Bought and fitted one of these, along with a K&N. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MGB-AIR-FILTER-HOUSINGS-/230842706715?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35bf4c2b1b A bit pricey, but you get 2. Comes as standard with a spacer block/back plate, supposedly for better flow. And it is a bi...

Re: Security devices
I fitted a 2-way switch to mine and wired the other circuit to a small and discrete amber warning lamp. Although, wired to the horn would be amusing.

Re: MGB Overdrive
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if you can fit an MGB geabox to a 'Marina 1800', without changing the Marina engine back-plate?

It might be that the thermostat is faulty, if it only reads 72 deg.

Re: Dizzy ID
I'll take a guess. The top one is maybe, off a Metro A+ engine. It has the shorter shaft and is held in place with 'fork' type clamp. The lower picture looks like a later type of dissy but would have a conventional clamp to hold it in place, as seen on the 25d dissys. 43d has no vac advance??

Re: Gearbox recommendation - I am confused!
The marina box is a Triumph based one. The same single rail box fitted in Dolly 1300/1500/1850, Spitfire 1300/1500 and Midget 1500. See Rimmer bros for parts. I can only reference the overdrive box I had. The 1850 O/D box is exactly the same length as the standard Marina one, with the bell-housings ...

I lost a socket down there to. If I am working in that area I now 'bung' it up with a large cloth (old T-shirt). I still miss that 11mm socket .
Re: Onesie
I saw a rather large lady in a tight fitting onesie cleaning her car the other day. Thankfully I have no pictures of that.

Re: Disrespecting the 803
My daily commute, requires me to be able to accelerate up to 60mph, in 3rd, on a slight incline, to join a dual-carriageway. I don't think that I'm macho enough to handle an 803. I'd be too scared of getting squashed.

I paid almost the same as that. £25 per bore. £20 block re-face. £20 head skim and £25 for valve lapping. + Mr Osbornes slice.

I saw this : http://www.mgcars.org.uk/news/news498.html
The engine code prefix '8G' looks like it could be a 850cc, as used by the GPO. Look for Austin A35 van in the list.

My daughter's little 1997 Renault Clio has a kerb weight of 930Kg. Does this mean with almost a full fuel tank?
