Re: Stiff Clutch....or is it normal?

Modern cars benefit from 40 years of engineering to give a lighter clutch pedal! (diaphragm spring & wear adjustment etc..) However that only answers half of your question - the pedal shaft, intermediate shaft & bellhousing lever all rotate on a pivot (or bushes for the intermediate shaft). ...

We've had up to 5% for a decade or so, and more hype than real issues.
Now we're getting "up to 10%" which is more of an issue, but 15% is likely to come at some point.
E85 is on the market (85% ethanol) but not many people can use it!

Re: If William Morris were alive today

He'd probably be even more interested in the future than the history.. such as that the UK makes more cars now than ever. I'd expect he's find the forthcoming plethora of EV's to be more than interesting - especially with the challenges of new infrastructure and the decade long undecided debate betw...

Re: Tour UK to Spain with a Morris Minor in august 2014

Any classic car road-trip is a gamble, but you can reduce the chances of breaking down very much, just by doing good servicing and running the car regularly for a few months before the trip... However as you are buying the car, then the best idea is to find one that is already used regularly. Also t...

Hey Adrian, Thanks for the photos - that really made me chuckle. We'd have really gone round in many circles trying to re-explain how to disassemble the Minor lower suspension arms & torsion bar assy, when you don't have them! Do you know what other modifications the car has? Yours has the full ...

Re: Don't believe whats written or said

there's a lot of problems with dodgy 'fuel hose' around the car fraternity now.. Yours is the second one I've spotted on Minor forums, but a few friends of mine are building kit cars and they've all mentioned similar things from kit forums. I was hoping it was actually the coil (never say never) - m...

Re: How Much is my 1098 Engine/Gearbox worth ?

generally the typical problems with engine/box transplants in a Minor is the box fouling with steering rack, and not fitting the tunnel. For a manual gearbox the solution is usually cutting a big chunk out of bellhousing, and modifying the tunnel cover For an auto box - be wary of chopping holes in ...

hmm - you've just made me wonder if it's possible to adapt electric fence equipment - I already know where to get conductive cloth (woven with metallic element s for EMC shielding) that would make an interesting steering wheel cover.

For those who're still confused - please see message in page 1 of thread: The OP 'happyjoe' has just posted a number of foul mouthed messages aimed at the club and members of this forum who replied to his offer. It seems that this was a 'hoax', possibly by the same messageboard member who was banned...

Re: Advise needed for crashed minor.

99% of the time, a Minor with solid bodywork is not really a 'donor' car. It is sometimes possible to get a bodyshell (eg when someone has stripped a car for parts) but most of these need work anyway, so I'd suggest you find a Minor-friendly bodyshop for your own rather than fix a different shell th...

Re: won't start - now intermittent loss of power

ah - very hot! I've only had one get so hot that it wouldn't run - and that took total water loss at >70mph for a fair while! Generally if the cooling water isn't boiling off (with accompanying steam and noises), then you've not got hot enough to stop it from working, but this is only a general rule...

Re: 1300 Marina engine

The 1098 gearbox is very similar to 1275 midget gearbox and although it's only a 4 speed it's suitable enough for most people. With that combination, many would change the diff ratio as well to avoid high revs at motorway speed, but that looses some of the low speed acceleration improvement. The oth...

The rip in the tool roll told me it was beyond saving!!
Yes - that put me off a bit too, so he chucked it in the wheelie bin to diffuse the issue.

Re: Silly question about my grease gun

I have one that looks similar and I added a nice long flexi hose, so gun can be on the floor when I'm pushing the lever and 2nd hand holding the hose onto the nipple (it self-holds when there is pressure, but if it hangs down at an angle, it can come off before you start greasing!). an expression I ...

could be electric or fuel related - check out similar thread from Louise as it's got a lot of useful advice.

stopping after 3 miles won't be fuel cap vent related.

Re: won't start - now intermittent loss of power

So you have a filler cap with no hole?!?
That would be a bad thing.

Nexty long drive you do (e.g. a gallon's worth..) - even without a stalling issue, if you stop and take the fuel cap off, to you get a little hiss when releasing.
If so, that's very much a bad thing on a minor.!

Re: Steering Rack Gaiters

I fail to see how a different oil could affect the metal parts other than if the different oil does not flow to the parts and they run dry. I have seen a few write-ups explaining that EP90 will damage bronze bushes - I'm sure it is theoretically possible as EP has a lot of weird/wonderful additives...
