Re: Distributor choice?
I will need to replace battery anyway so I guess best thing would be to go negative earth and add an alternator whilst I’m about it for better charging? I’m happy to stay with points set up really as I’ve never had much trouble in the past with them on other vehicles, unless the change to electronic...

Hi all, during the recommissioning of my 1970 1098 that had been sitting for ten years plus the distributor was damaged so I need a replacement. The question is what's the best route to take? At the moment it's positive earth, so should I use this opportunity to change to negative earth? I see ESM h...

Re: Oil thrower?
Thanks Phil I’ll get one ordered, I’ve got the neoprene seal fitted from outside of cover. I have what I presume is an oil breather/ separator canister coming from the tappet cover, is this correct ?

Re: Camshaft question
Yes had to add 3 shims Phil to line the faces up on the the new sprockets, the original ones didn't need any. I'll double check the marks are good through centres of the sprockets before I bolt them down. I need to fit a new crank pulley as the old ones is fairly scored where the oil seal sits!

Timing chain fitted and I’ve turned the engine over a few times, all seems well. Do the timing marks look correct?

Re: Camshaft question
Thanks for the help, I have purchased the duplex kit Phil and countersunk the screws ready to fit. I guess as long as there's no clash when the timings set all will be ok, thanks again matt

Re: Camshaft question
Camshaft is fitted with thrust washer one end and oil pump the other. Should the numbers on the rod and cap be facing the exhaust side Phil? I’ll see if I can spin the piston and conrod to see if that makes a difference.

Re: Camshaft question
All the caps and con rods are numbered 1-4 and are paired correctly number 1 being at the timing chain end. The numbers are facing the manifold side of the engine?

Re: Camshaft question
Thanks Phil I’d appreciate that, I’ve had an unexpected day off work so have just had another look and taken some pictures. The lobes are actually hitting the con rod not just the lock tabs.
