Re: Compression testers
The new Gunson compression tester has arrived, seems to be a solid bit of kit. I’m going to check compression tomorrow, the box says to just remove one plug at a time and test but I’m sure I’ve read to remove all of them before you start ? How many times do I need to crank? What’s the best system an...

Compression testers
Hi all, I’m looking to buy a compression tester. Can anybody recommend an affordable one that works? I understand it’s preferable to get one with a schrader valve in the end that screws into the head?

Timing?
Morning all, I’ve set the timing up on my 1098 statically to tdc so I’m presuming that to get it running at its best I’m going to need to make slight adjustments to the distributor? I guess I probably need to retard it a little as it should be set to approx 5 btdc, is that correct? What way do I tur...

Re: Mixture?
Thanks chaps, reset the jet this morning to the 2 turns down and with air filter removed the rev speed stayed constant so that's good. It seemed to be running ok set like that so until I take it out for a run I leave as is. I think I may have been pushing the lift pin to far up originally and gettin...

Re: Mixture?
Thanks Phil,I’ll have another look tomorrow. Have you got any idea why taking the filter off may cause the revs increase? So in theory I should be able to set the mixture with the filter removed? Would be easier to see how much I’m lifting the piston with it off

Mixture?
Hi all, I'm currently setting my 1098 up after an overhaul. I've set the timing statically and the car starts fine so I've moved on to the mixture. The carb has been rebuilt so I'm trying to set the mixture, I've tightened the jet fully and undone again 2turns/12 flats and it started fine, I've need...

Re: Accelerator pedal?
Thanks Phil, I thought as much otherwise setting the idle is difficult. How much is preferred or is it “just a little “ ?

Accelerator pedal?
Hi chaps, just a quick question. I’m fitting a new accelerator cable, is it better to have a little free play at the pedal or to have it tight? thanks in advance...

Thanks again Phil, could you point me towards a suitable coupling? Would I use hose clips to connect?

Re: Heater valve !
Or guess I could use a rubber reducer with 13mm pipe between reducer and heater hose Which would be best?

Re: Heater valve !
Thanks Phil, would that be a metal reducer with just a piece of 16mm hose between the take off and reducer?

Re: Heater valve !
I see the available brass taps are a sealed unit also, I may just go with the stub pipe instead, constant heater but no chance of a leak ?

Re: Heater valve !
Thanks all, mine came from the fore mentioned and is only 6 months old. I'll get myself a brass tap type I think, I had the same problem with a series 2A Land Rover one if I remember correctly and changed it out for a brass tap type. Thanks again matt

Heater valve !
Hi all, can I change the cable operated heater valve on my 1970 saloon to an older brass tap type ? The reason I ask is that I’ve a fairly new cable operated one and it’s leaking already! They don’t appear to be to well made by the look of it? Thanks Matt
