Re: Engine noise (video with audio included)

The low oil pressure has been mentioned to you for a while.....but look at the filter - are the plate and spring present and correct? The damage could be the result of unfiltered oil circulating. My engine has a spin on oil filter, if that makes a difference?[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?s...

The low oil pressure has been mentioned to you for a while.....but look at the filter - are the plate and spring present and correct? The damage could be the result of unfiltered oil circulating. That would be this part then? If I'm passing by the engineer's workshop, I'll call in and take a look[f...

Re: Engine noise (video with audio included)

Stripped and inspected. Apparently my engine has been eating itself from the inside out. Something to do with low oil pressure. A bolt out of the blue!

Spotted on an old Top Gear episode today was 507 BUO and a quick search online shows that it is currently taxed :D

Re: Engine number 10V/189E/H24621

12/69 Saloon - on an "H" plate - does this make sense? Thanks for the info - that's more than we knew. My Dad thought the 10V meant it was for a van? Someone was throwing it out and my Dad asked if he could have it but didn't think to ask what condition it was in. It has the closed circui...

Engine number 10V/189E/H24621

My Dad has this engine amongst his stock of spares. We have no information about it's history - can anyone help?

Re: Clutch components beyond salvage?

Thanks for the link - I'll 'watch' it. I have one or two spare engines in storage but it would be easier to buy a back plate than try to dig out an engine and dismantle it. Preliminary results of the engine strip are in. Apparently it was black inside and needs a crank re-grind and a re-bore? Valve ...

Re: Clutch components beyond salvage?

Phil, thanks. So I need a 948 clutch kit? I swapped the 948 fork for a 1098 fork and carbon thrust recently, so I'll need a 1098 carbon thrust?

Re: Clutch components beyond salvage?

OK - stick with one or the other, but which back plate do I have? 948 engine on a 1098 gearbox.

Re: Clutch components beyond salvage?

Al, yes, the gearbox bungs are missing but the clutch in the pictures came from a spare engine I have (unknown history/age), because the clutch that was in my car until recently was very, very heavy - back story here http://mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=49063 The carbon thrust has approx. 4mm...

Oil pressure relief valve

Should the bullet-shaped valve part of the valve assembly come out with the spring or does it stick inside because of the oil?

Re: Engine noise (video with audio included)

I normally start with good intentions about the budget but that usually goes out the window quickly

From what's been said, I should expect new oil pump, bearings and a reground crank. Lets see what prices I get back for the essentials and I'll decide on the extras then.

Re: Engine noise (video with audio included)

Yes. The problems arise when the oil thins out as it heats up. I see. I'm taking the engine to Quasar Engineering in Stockport for a strip down and diagnosis. They've told me it would be short sighted to leave the old oil pump in, if I'm taking the engine out anyway, as they're so cheap to buy. The...

Re: Engine noise (video with audio included)

Your engine needs neither 'balancing' or 'unleaded' head - oh dear..... That's why they described them as optional.... I like my engine, I think it's a good one. It pulls well (better than my brother's) and doesn't burn oil so I'm happy to have it repaired if it keeps it going. The company hasn't s...
