Re: Dynamo testing
No but it is a Minor or mini dynamo, have had several kicking about since the Romans were in town (Caerleon people will understand this).

Re: Dynamo testing
Sorry for being rather slow on this one but motor electrics and I have always had a difficult relationship, my mother also said that I was special! So swapped the control box today and readings on my muti meter are the same. Switching to 20 volts, attaching red lead to positive on battery, black lea...

Re: Dynamo testing
Will do some studying. Could it be battery related as recently charged it up over-night and battery was again bubbling and hissing the following morning?

Re: Dynamo testing
I do as it happens, so any ideas on what the problem is, pretty sure its a standard dynamo however may have changed the pully in the distant past, also needed to swap the control box some time ago. Just checked when I flagged up my concerns about the battery, it was June 2011, to be fair BMC suggest...

Re: Dynamo testing
Conected to battery and this is where readings taken from. What controls the amount of volts being fed back to the battery? Also eplains why all the bulbs at rear blew recently!

Re: Dynamo testing
Thank you for the information, quick fix in the end just one of the brushes stuck in its gage. I have posted my concerns on here in the past about my battery boiling after going out for a run, after sorting the dynamo my meter is reading 18+ volts when revving the engine. Is this correct could it be...

Re: Seat belt bracket
My KA seats are fixed both front and rear, pretty confident that they are secure, if they are gonna come out the whole front floor section is going with them! My minor is a pre belt motor so no existing belt points and to complicate matters its a rag top so a little more fragile.

Re: Seat belt bracket
Thank you for your comments, been driving this minor off and on for 33 years without belts and thankfully no accidents. I recognise that the brackets may fail and that the seat fixings may be ripped out from the floor but I think that even if they do I will have a slightly better chance of survival ...

Dynamo testing
My battery is not charging and I have an ignition light that remains on, its probably gonna be the dynamo but was wondering if anyone new how I can confirm this without taking it off. I have a pretty good multi meter but never really learned how to use it, auto electrics have always confused me.

Seat belt bracket
Evening all, Would anyone know where I can purchase one of these? Finally decided to fit some belts to my 61 rag top, open to any suggestions/advice, recently fitted a set of KA front seats and have the KA belts. Seats are great but they do not drop strait in and cannot be fitted to original MM bolt...

Re: MG Metro camshaft
Not going to worry about swapping the head but am I correct in thinking that the casting numbers were the same (12G940) for the heads with 1.3 and 1.4 inlet valves and therfore is it just a case of measuring them?

Re: MG Metro camshaft
Existing cam is a spider drive, this cam is a slot, read your comments on a different post about long and short slot oil pumps, what pump should I be looking to purchase?

Re: MG Metro camshaft
Thanks for the comment, I was fairly confident that I had the right one but was questioning myself as managed to pick it up for just twenty notes on the bay of E's. Running a standard midget 1275 head, guess thats OK then?

MG Metro camshaft
Finally managed to pick up a fairly good MG Metro cam (I hope, sure you will let me know if i have bought a wrong un), will this cam drop straight into the 1275 midget motor that I am having rebuilt or do I need to consider any modifications, valves etc?[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=142...

Re: What causes a core plug to drop out?
Also had one or two fail from rust, core plugs are mild steel, usually start as a few pin holes then show as a major leak when hot. The only one I recall as the plug dropping out was a MK 1 escort which had no antifreeze and an -10 frost. Motor will probably be fine, knock a new plug in and see how ...

Re: Traveller rear seats
it does.. why not just cut a piece of wood to shape rather than butcher a traveller seat (might be cheaper).. if you are local to me you are more than welcome to come over and make a template from my traveller seat. i can not see the baton being required because it is for the two pins that lock the...

Re: Twin Carb Advantage?
Sorry HIF 44, been a long day, MG ZT alternator change on the drive, why do they make modern (ish) cars so complicated, 3 hours just to get it out. Not all that confident that I will get the new one back in! Give me a minor any day, ten minutes tops.

Re: Twin Carb Advantage?
I can only talk from personal experience, drove my mog with original twins (professionaly set up) for about 10 years, a few years ago switched to a Hif 45. Its like driving a different motor, quicker, flying up hills that were always a bit of a struggle and generally more responsive. I did however r...

Re: Solid heater water pipes
I am delighted that your problem is sorted, I was just checking that we did not have a Jekyll and Roy situation on this site! Also thinking that it takes all sorts to make a good site like this work and we should respect or politely ignore the contributions made even if they go off track a little, t...
