Re: headliner colour

Depends on age. From Ray Newell's book : Early 4-piece covered in light beige cloth. Later MM in either dark beige or grey Rexine. If you've still got them, the sun visor(s) should be the same colour. Can't see a changeover date from cloth to Rexine but possibly July 1950. Car no. 57681 (RHD). Looks...

You can indeed. Had them on mine for a while now. Brighter than standard bulbs. No wiring needed for them. Straight swap. About £26 a pair from

Re: Headlamp Peak

Putting this suggestion out there as an alternative... If you want headlamp peaks (personally I dislike them), try finding out if headlamp rims from either a Riley One-point-Five or, if you can find them, a Mk1 Austin A55 will fit. (The later B-Series Farina ones definitely don't match the Minor's w...

Re: Insurance

They wouldn’t pull you on a clutch unless you mentioned something about it yourself, would they. If you don’t like it, it’s a free market. I still say £143 is afair price My renewal last May for a Series 2, bog-standard except for an un-modified 948cc Minor engine, was £135. It was £96 in 2016, £10...

Re: Not what they used to be!

GavinL mentions the yard at Pease Pottage (Bridger's yard). Always used to be good. I went there in the late 80's without much hope of finding a front bumper for my Austin A55. Found one still attached to the rest of the car. Cost me a fiver IIRC. Had the number plate VYF17 attached (which I still h...

Re: What would your dream garage look like?!

My garage has double side-hinged doors. They're about 7 years old. Made of aluminium cross-braced frames with UPVC skins. Sufficiently lightweight that they easily get caught in a breeze but heavy enough that they're already dropping on their hinges. I don't like up-and-overs since I had one go up, ...

Re: Morris Mosquito Model sold for the price of a real Minor

On page 18 of Paul Skilleter's book 'Morris Minor - The World's Supreme Small Car' there is a photo of Jack Daniel's holding the model. Looks to be approx 18 inches long.

Will try and scan it later.

That would confuse me too. You're quite right in your assumption that the engine number prefix should be APHM. I would suggest, if possible that you check back with Gaydon. It rarely happens but they have been known to make errors. If you've paid for a Hertiage certificate you deserve to be sure it'...

Has the car been used for a wedding? I got scratches on mine whilst tying cheap ribbons onto the car. They polished out fairly easily.

Petrol fumes could well be the rubber (or whatever it's made of) filler pipe between the fuel cap and the tank filler neck.

Re: MG Minor and Traveller query

As far as the 'MG Minor' is concerned, it is mentioned and the picture, posted by Blaketon, appears in Paul Skilleter's book 'Morris Minor - Thle World's Supreme Small Car'. Styling was developed alongside the Minor before production of the latter began. The pictured car is a full-size non-running s...

Re: GSL526

So now I'll perhaps correct the date range PB mentioned here They were issued, again from memory, between 2001 and 2010, replacing the previous dubious practice of giving all re-registered vehicles a 1963 A-suffix (year letter) plate. because it was in 1999 that a previous owner (who did quite a bi...

Re: GSL526

To expand on the info given by ManyMinors, the old, previously unissued Scottish registrations assigned by the DVLA for 'age-related' re-registrations were *SJ *SK *SL *SU *SV *SY. Also a couple from Welsh areas were used. From memory these were *FF and *FO. In all cases the format was three letters...
