Re: "Gracie" Dove grey 1965 2 door saloon.

A quick update I have now acquired a front disc brake set up from a Morris Marina including swivels etc. They have been put into storage boxes until the body work is complete. I'm still working on the gearbox rebuild and will be dropping the bellhousing cover off for machining to allow fitment of a ...

Re: E scooters

Just to 'nit pick' a bit, I did say 'the go-ahead for HIRE E scooters has been given". I have no problem with E scooters being used right now by anyone, as long as they never go on the pavements and clash with pedestrians. But of course they will be all over the pavements because there is no d...

Re: Knocking sound in 948 Minor

Hi Bob Firstly pinking is more of a tinkling sound rather than a knocking and usually occurs under load. Given you have recently had work on the Crankshaft then I would be inclined to start my investigation there, why did you replace the main bearings? Was the work carried out correctly?, were the t...

Re: E scooters

You mention E scooters but have missed off an important point, at the moment E scooters are illegal to use in the UK, the Government recently ran a consultation on the whole E scooter issue including the speed they are allowed to travel and the power output of the actual scooter. Of note the consult...

Re: Mg Midget 1275 gearbox rebuild

Your ability is only limited by your perceived lack of skill. You can do anything if you put your mind to it. I am not trained on lathe work but have picked it up as I have gone along. There are some good cheap lathes out there at the moment. They do not have to be complicated or new. The two lathe...

Re: Mg Midget 1275 gearbox rebuild

Well you live and learn. Glad you found the problem "Before" installing the box in the car !! I have now got all my bits laid out on the bench ready for re-assembly this weekend. Biggest job will be machining the new tail shaft bush. Phil I dropped my extension piece off at a local machin...

Re: Mg Midget 1275 gearbox rebuild

Well how much of an idiot do I fell just about now?? I assembled the mainshaft forgetting to install the 1st gear locating pin. Without this tiny pin it allows the 1st gear ring to slide fractionally past the end of the inner ring thus allowing the balls to escape. Now assembled correctly the 1st ge...

Re: Really?

The owner has had a lot of stick on various car forums over the comments he made in the advert, but he has stuck by his guns and refused to change the price and is adamant it will sell once someone goes to look at it. Looking at it realistically the pick up is probably worth about £20k tops includin...

Re: Mg Midget 1275 gearbox rebuild

I have conducted some research on the matter of the detent balls from first gear making their escape. Apparently there are a number of different bearings doing the rounds with the circlip groove in different locations, which would obviously allow the gear to move more than normal. I'm awaiting some ...

Re: Mg Midget 1275 gearbox rebuild

You didn't acidentally instal the 1st gear ring back to front did you, the position of that gear on its hub is very critical. There is one internal tooth that has a clearance for the interlock detent pin, you have to make sure that is aligned correctly and also that you have the gear on the right w...

Re: Mg Midget 1275 gearbox rebuild

I'm at a loss at to why the 1st gear over selected even with the spacer fitted.
Maybe I did something wrong whilst rebuilding the gear set, I will know later hopefully when I strip it down....

Re: Oil leak

The short clip in the above video shows where the seal sits on the crank, it does appear to sit behind the scroll seal on a machined surface of the crank. It appears to seal against the crank and also into a recess on the actual u shaped clamps (for want of a better word) which then bolt to the bloc...

The MED item certainly looks the part, and the fact it doesn't come with a tube of Holymar speaks volumes.

Re: Oil leak

The MED seal kit is a completely different kettle of fish which is reflected in the purchase price.. It is a kit I would use if needed but I have never had problem of oil leaking from the rear main. The main difference is that the seal does not run on the rim of the flywheel mounting flange. See th...

Now get them to throw away that seal kit and go back to standard as regards the rear main bearing oil control.

Is this a similar kit?
I take it you suggest running the standard scroll seal rather than these?

Re: Mg Midget 1275 gearbox rebuild

I have my spare gearbox in bits at the moment, I will be very interested in your findings as to why 1st is over selecting. Mine had a couple of flat washers behind the selector, they are approx 2mm total thickness so you should be OK with that. I think the engraved numbering is normal as well. Why ...

Re: Mg Midget 1275 gearbox rebuild

Another set of bearings ordered, along with lock washers etc. The only reason I can see why the synchro balls parted company with the synchro is the First gear selector moved too far, I was of the opinion the 2mm brass bush would stop this from happening. A strange thing I did notice was the First g...

What app are you using?
I use the Flightradar24 app

No it wasn't that one Phil I think from my search it was an Antonov AN26 or very similar.
