Re: Advice for first Moggie purchase

Most electronic ignition kits replace the points within the distributor, the distributor and leads remain the same and there is no obvious visual difference.

Re: Advice for first Moggie purchase

The alternator replaces the dynamo, both of which provide charge for the battery, it has nothing to do with the ignition system.

Re: Carburetor replacement

You don't need a new carburettor, you need a new mechanic!!. SU carbs are the easiest carbs to adjust the mixture on. Get better advice or a workshop manual and you can easily adjust yourself.

Re: Armstrong spares

It is not an easy job to dismantle & recondition these. There is a thread here showing how. https://www.morrisminorowners.co.uk//viewtopic.php?f=32&t=8339&hilit=Home+damper+repair ESM do exchange reconditioned units, see: https://www.morrisminorspares.com/front-suspension-c47/front-suspe...

Re: Rain Issue

Water getting into/onto the distributor cap tends to short out the HT to the plugs, fitting electronic ignition will make no difference. Try the old trick of observing the HT leads/cap in the dark for any blue sparks! this can show up HT problems.

Re: modern ish cars on e10 fuel

My Ford Fiesta (2015), Morris Minor (1961) & Land Rover 3.9 V8 (Carbs) all drive exactly the same as before. Seems very odd that these relatively modern vehicles should be coughing and spluttering.

Re: Hot switch

If the switch is getting hot under normal load, then it will be because of a resistance within the switch. You could test with a meter for load and resistance or just replace with a good quality switch.

Re: New owner 1st trip

No, but the pull start wiring diagram is the same as regards what is fused and what is not. The alternator conversion makes no difference to the fuse wiring. Not sure why you seem to mistrust the advice given. It was standard practice on most (all?) cars at the time to have unfused supply to these i...

Re: New owner 1st trip

I'm not sure how you have come to that conclusion! Follow the diagram starting at the battery. There is not a fuse between the battery, ignition switch and coil/fuel pump. Suggest you take out your fuses and see if the car runs, if not it has been incorrectly wired. One side of the fuse is the live ...

No, not unless a PO has messed up your wiring.
