Re: Knocking when warm

It runs a bit lumpy, but it's not too bad. I don't think I've ever been able to get the mixture set up properly.
The noise is there whether the clutch is down or not.

Re: Knocking when warm

It's not the fuel pump - or would fuel starvation cause another type of knocking.
This is a bigger knock than the pump - it can be felt through the clutch pedal.

Knocking when warm

Hello, today when the engine got warm (Smthis temp gauge over the half way mark) after about 15 minutes there was a worrying knocking noise from the engine somewhere. Oil pressure gauge shows about 30psi when warm at idle. The only thing that's different today is the weather is warmer and I fitted s...

Hi Lynda - yes it is indeed Eric. Tell your dad he's doing fine. I've just come back inside after fitting an electronic ignition to him which worked a treat.

Re: Black Oil

It's a spin-on filter so should be ok from that point of view. When I took the rocker cover off to adjust the gaps a couple of weeks ago there was indeed a load of crud under there, which I cleaned out so I will do the same with the sump and see what happens. At least I know it's nothing terminal an...

Black Oil

I bought a new minor recently and the first thing I did was to change the oil and the filter as it was very black. A few weeks regular commuting (26 mile round trip) later and it was black again so I did another change, together with a magnetic sump plug, thinking perhaps that it had been a while an...

My 1275 Sprite engine is blue. Whether that was its original colour or not I don't know.

Re: Some advice for a newbie please

An excellent book to get an understanding about older cars is the AA Book of the Car, written in a time when the cars were new. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Book-Marcus-Amram-Israel-Jacobson/dp/B00278VDTA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1276542192&sr=8-2 I got mine for 20p from a car boot sale.

Re: Stuck door

I just wasn't kicking hard enough!
Somehow the locating pin had got itself jammed in the hole.

Re: cheapest place for rover white in a paint can?

The cheapest place I've ever found Rover Arum White in a spray can is a shop called The Range (http://www.therange.co.uk)
Can't remember the price, but certainly a lot better than halfords.

Re: Stuck door

I have indeed.
I think I may need to use a hammer and a block of wood and give it a good belt from the inside.
At least it will make me feel a bit better if nothing else.
What a way to use my 100th post.

Stuck door

Hello, Yesterday the driver's side door wouldn't stay shut so I adjusted the locating pin which helped a bit but wasn't perfect. Today I adjusted the pin again but now I'm unable to open it! Even laying across the front seats and kicking the door from the inside won't budge it. I've sprayed grease d...

Re: Can't open bonnet!

All sorted now - thanks PSL184.
Taking an angle grinder to it was a bit extreme I thought, but it seemed to work ok.

Can't open bonnet!

Ahem, I don't suppose someone would mind PM'ing me with the recommended procedure on how to open the bonnet when the pull doesn't work?

I seem to remember someone saying that this can happen when you use a later style fuel sender with an older, golden, speedo/gauge. Or is it the other way round?

Re: Split steering gaitor.

The ones that Declan saw on eBay are good. I think they're better quality, or at least more flexible, than a set I bought from a Minor retailer. I ended up fitting the ebay ones in the end and slid them over the track rod end without too much trouble.
