Re: Damaged radiator

Thanks for all the comments. The replacement radiator and fan blade arrived today. Hopefully I will be able to take a look at the car over the weekend. One final question / request for comment….. If I need to replace / adjust the gearbox engine steady, or do any other work on the engine, it will be ...

Re: Damaged radiator

Thanks Phil. I will have a good look to try and workout why it happened before I fit the new radiator.

Re: Damaged radiator

Thanks for suggesting the possibility that the engine is “ moving”. As I explained in my message the car was going fine and certainly there is no obvious movement at the pump or blade and the damaged radiator, before I removed it, was firmly bolted in. A sudden movement of the engine would certainly...

Re: Damaged radiator

Thanks for the reply. Mine went initially to Hong Kong. I suppose that explains the two fan blades. I will have a good check of the water pump when I refit everything.

Damaged radiator

Any suggestions as to why this has happened please. I recently replaced the water pump and cooling tubes on my daughters Minor. At the time I noticed that the fan had only a single blade.( mine has two). However all put back together, coolant etc. and all went well. A few days ago my daughter went t...

Rocker box deposits

Trying to do some work on my daughter car. Noticed some oil leaks from the rocker box gasket. Took the rocker box cover off and noticed an area of black carbon (?) deposits above cylinder 3 /4. My initial thoughts are that one or both exhaust valves are “ leaking”. Any thought’s please and any sugge...

Re: Bypass hose

Thanks all. I know about removing the pump, pump gasket, radiator, etc. thanks having done all of these things before. I just wanted to know if it was possible to get the bypass hose, as sold by ESM, with the “concertina profile” onto the water pump / cylinder head connectors without removing either...

Bypass hose

A quick question. Wanting to replace the hoses on my daughters Minor. Can the bypass hose be removed / replaced without removing the cylinder head. When I replaced it on my Minor I had had the cylinder head off anyway. Thanks for any advice.

Re: Starter motor problem

Thanks for everyone’s help and advice. Not knowing very much about engines and having come to the joy of Morris Minors very late in life I have not yet learnt the lesson, so often repeated on this forum, of starting at the simplest end of the problem and working along stage by stage. I immediately t...

Re: Starter motor problem

Olonas Thanks for the reply. I will probably take out the starter motor anyway and give it a good clean. It will be a good learning for me if nothing else. However before I do that, when I see my daughter tomorrow I will try the battery from her Minor in my car to see how that goes. My battery does ...

Re: Starter motor problem

Paul Checked the battery. Voltmeter and lights. All seems to be OK. My first thought was the solenoid. Cleaned the terminals. Then realised that I could hear a “ spinning sound “ when the ignition was turned. Cab I can clearly see the front of the starter motor shaft spinning on the ignition. As sai...

Starter motor problem

Some advice please. Got home yesterday afternoon. Car has been starting and running really quite well. I stopped on drive and when I went to run the car into the garage and starter motor would not spin the engine. The battery is fine…voltmeter and lights check. The starter motor shaft spins but bend...

Re: Daughters car won’t start

Thanks Geoberni
Have checked the battery leads on my daughters car and they both look alright. However the positive lead on my Morris does have a slight kink on it that a previous owner has covered up with insulation tape. Will have a closer look under the tape and will replace it if needed.

Re: Daughters car won’t start

Thanks for all your replies especially the one that actually referred to the issue of the solenoid! Cleaned all the terminals as suggested and it all seems to be working fine again.
Best wishes

Daughters car won’t start

Daughter went to drive her “new to her” 1963 four door, standard engine, to work this morning and it would not start. Battery good but engine would not turn over. Looks like there is no current getting to the starter motor. Is a failed solenoid the most likely culprit. If so is there any easy way of...

I am certainly no expert but how to adjust the mixture is very clearly explained in the Haynes Manual. Even I managed to follow it.

Re: SU jet assembly

A bit of a silly question but I have had quite a lot of “ two steps forward one step back or even one step forward two steps back” with my car that I would like to try to get this right first time. Have watched the video about connecting the jet assemble “tube” into the bottom of the float chamber …...
