Re: How would you tackle cleaning this upholstery?

For normal removal of dirt there are plenty of upholstery cleaning products available. The vinyl upholstery is tough stuff and in extreme cases I have attacked it with a scrubbing brush and washing up liquid, with surprisingly good results. However I doubt if these will remove paint and there is a r...

Re: Sticky speedo - lubricate?

To update this post, fairly regular use since the spring has seen the speedo gradually return to normal activity without dismantling it. It will soon be time to put the car way again so I’ll see how it fares this winter.

Re: Morris advice requested

You mentioned that it was in a rented garage so I would guess you want to resolve this fairly quickly. As has already been pointed out transferring the number involves bureaucratic and technical hurdles and may take quite a while. If you are abroad do you have local friends or family to arrange acce...

Re: Bought a moggy

As the Minor evolved and gained larger engines the axle ratios were changed to suit. As your car started with an 803 and now has a 1098 has the old diff been replaced to suit?

Re: Surplus English Wine & Minors?

I can’t imagine that the Aston covers any serious annual mileage whatever it’s fuel. Perhaps of greater concern is the royals’ habitual use of helicopters.

Ever enforced? I have heard of drivers being ticketed for no plate but very rarely. I guess it varies with local policy plus the zeal/malice of the individual cop.

Re: Would you choose Lucas parts?

Only the plugs and points were listed by Morris as items for periodic replacement. For the other items, as someone has already said, if they ain’t broke don’t mess with ‘em.

Re: Goodbye 'GB'

Given the grimness of Irish history and the deeply entrenched animosities there this does seem like an absurdly small sticking plaster.

Or standards not falling. Without being too controversial I think we might agree that the abolition of workhouses represents a small improvement. :D

Re: Falling standards

Societies do not change overnight with the accession of a new monarch so I don’t think Victoria’s dates alter the validity of my comment about the good old days. I drew up that list a while ago in response to a young relation who had been learning about the slave trade. Listening to some of the slav...

Re: New Fuel Problem

After 2030 and perhaps even as we approach it I think the greater risk is that as demand falls petrol stations will become few and far between. The smaller ones have already been squeezed out and the present type function viably only with big sales volumes.

So you're the one that kick started all the stroppy teenagers in extinction rebellion!  Best wishes, Mike. [/quote] Never underestimate stroppy teenagers. When I was one we tried to point out that the war in Vietnam might not be an entirely good idea. It’s funny how history repeats itself.

Re: Clutchless changes

You can also make your journey easier with a little forward planning to minimise stop start situations. I once came home fifty miles without a clutch. My usual exit from a main road was on to a congested roundabout but two exits later there was a lightly used exit so by going further and taking a co...

Re: Hats off to the 803!!

I had a 602cc 2cv about thirty years ago. It wasn’t fast but it seemed reasonably lively and it kept up with the traffic. The 2cv isn’t powerful but it is very light, the body is made of tinfoil. :D
