Re: distributor
When running, and wear slop is pretty much taken up - but the mechanical advance mech is worked with moving bob-weights restrained by small springs - if they can't move = no mechanical advance = poor performance. hi , when i suck on the advance pipe to the dizzy it seems to rotate fine , would this...

Re: distributor
Noooooo. There will always be some slop - but when turned clockwise it should twist against springs - and return when you let go. The bob-weights may be seized - try squirting some thin/release oil in below the top plate - but may be time for a strip down. thanks , i thought it might be some wear o...

Re: brakes
Well - if fitted wrong side they will be hopeless - sounds like yours are ok. However - it does sound like the rear cylinders are perhaps seized up on the hydraulic piston - but still working on the handbrake. New rear cylinders !! And that will make quite a difference to your overall braking effor...

Re: brakes
You just have to keep your eyes open for W brakes. But the 8" b rakes should easily lock the front wheels at 20/30 mph - which is all the stopping you need for sane driving. If they can't do that - then something is wrong..... Could b e nasty modern brake shoes - or sticking pistons in the cyl...

Re: brakes
'ronnie' - your 8" drums should be fine if in good condition. My personal view is that the great expense of changing to discs is not justified for a sanely driven standard Minor..... Those who know me are aware that I have a set of the 9" Wolseley drums on my car - these are excellent. No...

Re: poor accelleration
The adjusting nut goes down/rich and up/lean. Lift the piston just a tad (really a tad, like 1/32") with a screwdriver. The ideal response is the idle running a little faster -- not a lot. If it runs a lot faster, and keeps increasing as you lift the piston a tad higher, it's too rich. If it s...

Re: poor accelleration
'Strobe' - to what??? The only way is to set it 'not quite' pinking. The carb piston may be rising too quickly - hence my Q about presence of a spring on the piston - and suggestion of slightly heavier oil in the damper. But it could also be (although i think less likely) that the piston can't rise...
