Re: Seized brakes advice sought

Having used the heat method to unsieze one side of brakers I stupidly removed the shoes ( yes they did need replacing due to containmination), as the main objective at present time was just to get car rolling down for MOT (!). Anyway, didnt realise the handbrake cable loosen and wiggle, I applied he...

I've had problems, esp when cutting to fit 4dr doors.
Doesn't help when the original door frame has got bent from previous fitting the furfex ones.

Re: Austin Van - First Produced

I was just thinking 2018 will be the 50th year, wondered if that one in Kelso was a suitable club candidate for rebuild ( it looks too far gone for a one person rebuild, but not beyond total restoration with the right stuff )

Re: Austin Van - First Produced

As said above , the GPO specified 848 engines for some of its vans, but were they in the Austin, rather than Morris versions? (the LCV register will know)

Re: Morris seats

I dont think there is any law (Loss of Concours points?) for using a folding seat in a drivers position, particulary for a two door. I am not sure if they actually fold under the steering wheel ?

Austin Van - First Produced

Can someone refresh my memory of when the Austin LCV Van version was first issued by BMC?
(I think they were all 1098cc after the A35van had been discontinued.

Centre Consol (Aftermarket)

Anyone make a plastic or similar centre consol that goes around the gearstick and the gearbox cover, to give a 'flat' tray for storing mints, cassette tapes, odd keys, etc in ? I have tried fitting old ones from Simcas/Cortinas/Chevettes but they dont really fit well.

Re: Breather

err. one bolt to undo. redo and replace gasket as and when. Its been split for xxx years I presume. easier for me to keep all bits on the engine rather than risk losing them on the concrete flooring,

Maybe do a bulk batch run and sell via club spares ? Or into the trade distribution channels ?

Small Ad in Minor Matters, meanwhile I'll have 4

(keeping the iffy one only as I dont think its worth getting a couple on their own with postage, as I a just going to get the engine running first, then I will do a swap over if I see problems.)

The covers did not seem to be damp. I'll find some silica gel crystal stuff, febreeze or shake n vac , and hang on the washing line when its sunny breezy.

Re: type of seats in a 57 van

Basic, I have seen van seats in Black (Royal Mail) Brown (GPO Telephones I think). No fluting on the covers unlike the cars. But , if its for a customer they could probably order whatever they wanted. Tip and Fold for the passenger side , sliding adjustment for drivers ( but again they could be extr...

Thanks , I am trying to avoid replacing the rubber side cover gasket even though it is split - a nice vertical at about 6 o'clock, it seems to be nipping up well.

Re: Breather

What is the 'correct' filler cap? I seem to have . Metal One - an old style , Plastic Flat one, Plastic Deep with some kind of Gauze (fume filter?) - which suggested replacement over a distance - goodness knows how far it may have travelled. Multiply permutations by about 2 at last count. Also rubbe...
