Re: Heater Outlet Studs Broken (948cc Head,1960))
They didn't pass the head back to me, annoyingly (I might get it back later), I had done no work on it , originally being fitted with block by Castleford minors some years ago, I must have driven the car back to London but did not use it that much due to the clutch problem, which I why I expected th...

No rat evidence, but damp shed almost certainly. When I was on a farm some fields were sweeter than others.

Smelley Seats (64->) - how to solve.
I am never sure if it is because the cars have been stored in fields, or old seats stored in fields, or if it is the dunlopillow type foams just breaking-up / chemicals leeching out that causes a particular smell. Picking up, more for the frame , a front seat with red viny covers its quite a problem...

Re: Traveller woodwork removal
We had to take out the rear ladder, (the coachbolts will be close to impossible to get out ) doors off to reduce weight. we didn't brace (ohh fun on re-assembly to come). 3 evenings of find the bolts / screws and 15 mins to take off when the rest out. really is quite a simple construction when its i...

Re: Traveller Project 2015
Timber Framing, bit discoloured, But I think I will have to dismantle all to sand and do correctly, should last for 15 years , (I might sand back and the wax/ or varnish process complete.[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1442272699_9957 [/frame] If we can re-assemble the rear, and get the d...

Re: Traveller Project 2015
Rear taken off, its a bit tricky to work out what is metalwork damage, missing or requiring work. N/S B Post finishes short of where it should , as it appears boxing external section. I understand from other posts that the plate under the rear of B post short thick wooden section is designed to keep...

Re: Traveller Project 2015
More is coming off before it all goes back together (I have got the dismantle front doors and remove varnish runs from the rear panels internals on my work list) My (now deceased) father decided to paint a lot of metal bits gloss dulux white (including master cylinder, gearbox mounting brackets and ...

Re: 4 door Saloon - 2 Year restoration
The stop light switch needs re-sorting (I keep forgetting everytime its a fine day). And the rear doors are not quite fitted correctly - I need to find a couple of frame bolts that I forgot to fit which should help, along with a good fitting screwdriver to adjust the frame ' l' brackets around the w...

Re: Broken Seat
One bends the tube if it will flex, then fill with lengths of bike wheel spokes , flip other tube end over , it all hold, is stronger, does not necessarily need a weld as the interference fit should do the trick. (Works better when repairing things like those thin tube clothes airers)

Re: Conversion To Alternator (2nd Time Around ) 1960
Garage decided that the alternator I had ( from my well deceased Austin 1300), was indeed, not charging (which probably was the reason the generator not working light was not going off and the reluctance to start), and supplied replacement alternator with kit and wired up somewhat differently ( and ...

Re: Heater Outlet Studs Broken (948cc Head,1960))
thanks, in the end engineering shop did it for me, the head was off an MG of some description, but we then had problems with the engine starting , which other restorer reckoned was a valve / seat problem, so they changed the head. So it cost me to sort out something that didn't work on something tha...

Re: Identifying correctly the car you want to Buy
There are not many differences between a van and a pick-up - are they not both down as LCVs ? (As In from memory no structural differences on the chassis ) With the PickUp cab rear fitted along with side panels and tailgate it can be a way of changing the full van sides and roof with problem gutteri...

Re: Make do and mend...........
They normally crack when the screw gets tightened just a little toomuch.
I have a drawer full of them, if anyone wants a go ( think this type was also used on contemporary MGs and similar too)

Re: Battery?
I have been using oversized fit the compartment s/h batteries that seem to get dumped around here , they probably wont start the diesel vans they have come off , but work fine on the smaller car, Otherwise some motor factors have short - term deals worth looking at them !

Thanks,
actually other than parking on a unlit road a night what is the point of front sidelights anyway (extreme useful when the headlamp bulb blows and one does not have a ready replacement ) ?

Re: Front door
Is the pin on the door and the receptor on the B post ? they can get mis-aligned, as can the small door frame catch and door handle- if you are that far advanced into the door hanging.
