Re: glove box lids

When the last type of lid was introduced, were LHD Minors still being made? My car has extra gauges in the right hand glove box and it would look tidier if I had a matching lid, into which I could fit the gauges. I see that the sidevalve ones are the same but I need one without pre existing holes fo...

Re: Overdrive -- is it possible?

I fitted one to my MG Midget 1500, which of course uses a Triumph engine. In my case, the gearboxes were the same, aside from the obvious and slight differences with the selector rods. My old bell housing fitted (Unlike the A Series box, the bell housing is removable). The standard, single rail box ...

Re: Bottom Trunnions

I'm aware that the king pin threads used to be cut undersize and the appropriate trunnion fitted but that is all past. Would I be right to say that the kingpin is harder than the trunnion, so wears less quickly. This being the case, is there any rough guide, as to how many trunnions you wear out to ...

It has been moved 90 degrees to the right and a few yards forward. I don't know why. I can keep an eye on it or make inquiries, if someone is up for a challenging project.

Two other old photos

I sent this story to Minor Matters but it didn’t make it to print :-? . My mother’s aunt (And my godmother) had her first car in the late 1950s, a brand new, green Morris Minor 1000. Her brother in law arranged the purchase (He ran a transport business and was more used to that kind of thing) but wh...

Re: Seat cleaninig

The old adage, a little and often pays dividends. If vinyl seats are really grubby, panel wipe would get most things off. It is also called spirit wipe (Not white spirit) and pre paint wipe. It's not as aggressive as paint thinners!! I know there was a product called Valay, that was good on plastic ...

Re: The truth will out

Just shows we should ban all forms for air travel and also reduce the pollution that is always blamed on cars. Especially old cars  . I'd tell any "Milkfloat" driver to bring their vehicle back in fifty years (And some looking at those cars) and then talk sustainability. The trouble...

Re: The truth will out

With at least 21 miles of water, between us and France, we should have been well placed to keep the virus at bay. However it was allowed in by boat and aeroplane. We seem to have forgotten the lessons taught us by rabies. As an example of stupidity, is has to be one of the best. I am aware that poll...

Re: What we did in the lockdown

I'm finishing off my father's 1275 MG Midget, which I'd be doing anyway. It's the front brake pipes to do and then the door drop glasses (At times like this I sometimes wish he had a Mk 1 Midget or a Frogeye, with sidescreens  ) and then I think that's it. I have taken over the project, so it's...

Stirling Moss

Sad to hear that Sir Stirling has died after a long illness - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/formula-1/2020/04/12/sir-stirling-moss-dead-former-f1-driver-dies-aged-90/ . As a former Minor owner, I don't think we need banish him to Off Topic. Stirling Moss is one of those drivers, who's fame never seeme...

Re: Us oldies..

Defintion of "Oldie" very much depends on the age of the person saying it. When I was eighteen, someone of thirty was getting on and fifty was ancient. Now both would be younger than me!! We're all in lockdown now. There is a degree Sod's law about this (Beyond the obvious issue). We have ...

Re: Driving a Morris Minor in the Targa Rally 2019

I'd sooner drive your Minor!! It reminded me of this film - https://www.dukevideo.com/prd3287DA/Mon ... rchive-DVD - as there was a Morris Minor in that and as the commentator remarked "Morris Minors cope manfully", the 1991 event being very snowy.

Re: 'Smart' motorways

I recently had cause to go to a funeral in Normandy (The one near Guildford in Surrey!!). I've not been that way for some time and I see that the M4 is to be " Smartened " as far as junction 12, by the Spring of 2022. From what I could see, returning home during the rush hour, if you were ...

Re: mild road rage

Maybe not with shot batteries and I suspect that battery replacement cost will curtail the lives of most ageing and depreciating electric vehicles. I have said, for a long time, that modern cars increasingly don't lend themselves to so called bangernomics and as a spin off, to DIY maintenance and re...

Is that you, as a Minor fan or have you heard other lorry drivers say the same? My father, who has had some very fast cars and driven them so (He dates from before the national speed limit, which was 70 when it came in....and once covered 88 miles in one hour) doesn't drive at the moment (Not sure w...

Re: mild road rage

The pity of it is that none of this came out whilst he was alive. The law presumes people innocent, until proven guilty. There is also the issue of "Small fry" V the big fish and this might explain why nothing ever came out but we'll never know for sure. I seem to recall Jimmy Saville fron...

Re: mild road rage

Issigonis pointed out that the Mini's remarkable road holding was motivated by safety. Perhaps, if you are in a bus, you are less likely to get hurt if it hits anything or is hit by anything. However, the Mini is less likely to go off the road in the first place, than something with a high centre of...
