Re: New fan belt, now have red light

Don't worry. I've been perfectly happy with my dynamo equipped Morris Minor all these years. I put some new dynamo brushes in some years ago (an easy job) but apart from that I have never had an issue with it. The car starts up every morning and carries out its duties without ever a flat battery or ...

Re: Pirelli Cinturato tyres.

The handbook for our Traveller says 26psi all round, but that was for Crossply tyres. With Radials the recommended pressure is 30psi all round. Those pressures may differ for saloons. That's interesting. Which handbook is that? I still have the maker's handbook supplied with my car when new and tha...

Re: Why is the air intake above the exhaust?

On my renault 4 the air intake could be positioned either over the manifold or away from it, and this was for summer or winter. My MMs2 has the old silencer type air intake, and there must have been many variations since then. If the weather is too cold i imagine that could cause problems. The Mino...

Re: Ignition

When you say that "for reliability" you're going to fit electronic ignition, do you mean that you've found the original set-up to be unreliable? In almost half a century of Morris Minor driving I have never had a problem with the points. It is just a matter of purchasing good quality parts...

Re: 1963 pull starter cable

You could shorten it I suppose but if you wanted the proper part and that's what you asked for, you should have been sent one. I would contact a few more specialists and find the correct item if that's the best they can do....... I didn't have any trouble obtaining a starter cable for mine so they A...

Re: Clip on door mirrors

I fitted my mirrors exactly as suggested above: I cut the stud down so that it was no longer than needed to attach it to the triangle. It looks untidy to drill a hole through to the inside although a grommet could be fitted. I did this by finding a piece of wood to place inside the triangle to drill...

Re: Mystery Car

In the matter of 'racing lorries', I had the good fortune to know the late Vaughan Davis and, through his kind generosity, I was present at the record-setting meetings that took place at Millbrook and which were reported on in the linked article. To say that the whole experience was impressively un...

Re: Mystery Car

It is quite a big car which would have been expensive. Mid to late 1930s? Lots of coachbuilders around still in those days so possibly an unusual body. Something like an Alvis possibly? MG also made some large saloons. The rear lamp is similar to that on the (pre Jaguar) SS cars so possibly one of t...

Re: Clip on door mirrors

Russ, I can't remember where I bought mine from but several sellers on ebay list them "Lucas style wing mirrors" etc. and I think quite a few Morris Minor specialists also stock them. Make sure you order convex glass though. Very easy to fit: You simply undo the 2 self tapping screws holdi...

Re: Clip on door mirrors

For myself, I found any of the clip-on mirrors pretty useless and threw mine away several years ago. I now have the "Lucas replica" door/wing mirrors which are widely available and inexpensive and have fitted them to the triangular panel in front of the quarterlight as many other owners ha...

Re: Pirelli Cinturato tyres.

That's a good choice I think. I've been very pleased with my Bridgestones. The original BMC handbook suggests tyre pressures of 24psi front and 26psi rear with 145/14 radial tyres fitted. I've seen no reason to deviate much from this and run mine at 26psi all round. I know there are some forum membe...

They are Mk1 Ford Transit mirrors. I should think you'll find you're knocking into them all the time! You do need some sort of decent mirror on a van though.....

Re: Pirelli Cinturato tyres.

Your Firestone tyres will be pretty old simply on the basis that they haven't been available for many years. The Bridgestone tyres are excellent and suit the Minor very well. I have been very pleased with mine. Whether the Pirellis are worth the extra money who knows? I have no experience of them bu...

Re: Brake servo advice

I can only agree with the previous reply. My Minor is driven every day and regularly on long journeys. It has completely standard brakes and I've never felt them to be lacking. However, they are well maintained with the best quality components and work properly. However. If I felt that the Minor bra...

Re: Front wings for 71 Traveller

I wouldn't suggest DumDum myself as it isn't suitable for overpainting. A caulking sealant is more suitable really.
Early models did have a plastic beading as used on the rear wings so there is no reason why you can't do this if you prefer.

Re: Hello!

Have you actually seen a Rose Taupe Morris in good condition? It is a very striking colour which looks great and really suits the traveller with the contrasting woodwork :) You might feel differently about it. Changing the colour of a Minor properly would cost a great deal of money because of all th...
