Re: Rear Hub End Float

All sorted. Someone had put two thick gaskets between the hub and half shaft which added up to 0.032" thick. The standard gasket that came with the new kits is 0.006" thick, so I had an unwanted end float of 0.026". Anyway I have fitted the new bearing and seals etc and all is well ag...

Re: Solenoid starter problem

Are you getting 12 volts from the ignition switch onto the solenoid terminal when you turn the key ? If you are then you probably need another solenoid, but check that it is properly earthed as well before buying a new one. If you are not getting 12 volts to the solenoid you need to work backwards a...

Rear Hub End Float

I have just discovered that I have a smal amount of end float on my nearside hub on the 1969 Traveller. It makes a small clunk when you rock the car. I have not got any further than jacking it up and giving it a tug in and out, has anyone got any ideas what might be causing the end play before I str...

Mine certainly has washers under the screw heads, I would think that is fairly nomal when nipping onto wood.

Re: Knocking from boot!

Hi there If you have a 12 month warranty, then take it straight back and get them to sort it out for you. I see you are in Hebden Bridge, not too far from me in Silsden. I can only guess where you bought the car, but if it is where I think it is I would be interested to know how you get on with havi...

Re: Hoses query

I second that on the heater hoses. Mine looked fine at first glance, but if got hold of one and put a bend in it they were totally cracked through the rubber outer membrane. Whilst I was checking mine it sprung a leak there and then just by disturbing it. Luckily I had already bought a set of replac...

How well do those clip on mirrors work on the passenger side ?
Can they be angled enough to be useful for viewing down the nearside of the car when parking etc.

Re: 54 new purchase

Could I ask for a bit of information on which quarter-light mirror you have used please. I have a drivers door mirror on my Traveller and nothing on the passenger side, I was wondering about fitting a couple of the clip on type but not sure if they are any good. The problem with the door mirror is t...

Re: Electronic ignition

One thing I did when I bought the Accuspark distributor was to replace the rotor arm with a "Distributor Doctor" red one. I dare say the one fitted by Accuspark was probably OK, but I thougt it wise to use one of known good qaulity. I keep the Accuspark one in the car as a spare. I did buy...

I got a quote from Footman James because they seemed to be the ones recomended by the MMOC.
They were quite expensive and I ended up getting a MUCH better deal through Adrian Flux.

There looks to be some dirt in the threads that are visible.
I would take it all apart again and make sure it is spotlessly clean before trying again.

Also have a look for any burrs on the threads.

Re: Electronic ignition

Oh Dear........... I have an Accuspark distributor fitted on my Traveller. Touchwood, so far it has proved to be a vast improvement over what was fitted when I bought the car which was a Lumenition system. That was probably 20 years old, so was past its best anyway. I have fitted my spare distributo...

Is it possible to "feel" any movement between the two parts of the damper pulley ?
I have bought a second hand Mini one ready to fit to my spare Minor engine, but it feels pretty solid to me, I dont suppose there will be much give in the rubber membrane though.

Re: Choke Return Spring

Hi

That is not the correct spring for the job at all, someone has added that later.
The correct return spring is a torsion type whiich goes around a spigot on the carb body to return the choke lever.

Re: question for phil

I would also replace the distributor cap based on what you have said.
The different rotor arm is now probably masking the original fault on N° 2 post in the cap, and will probably return in time.

Distributor Doctor is your man for a good quality rotor arm and dissy cap.

Re: Engine Rebuild

Well I have just been having another more detailed look at the bores on my spare engine, I am checking them with a three point dial bore comparator to see how oval they are, as well as with a telescopic bore gauge and micrometer to check the actual dimensions. They do look to be a couple of thou ova...
