Re: E10 Fuel September 2021
The Chinese, big ships and Bitcoin are valid concerns but I think circumstances will catch up with them in time and we can all influence markets in a small way. I don't go on cruises or buy Bitcoins and I try to minimise purchases of imported tat. The difficulty with looking askance is that it repre...

Re: E10 Fuel September 2021
I don’t think alterations are needed but probably it would be a matter of fine adjustment of the individual vehicle rather than anything radical. I’ve been running a Minor for twenty years now and every few years the petrol is altered and we worry for our cars. Rather than try to anticipate what wil...

I have a ‘54 with a 1098 diff and a motorbike with a speedo in kilometres. The mental arithmetic can get very complicated.

I used stainless m5 screws with nuts and washers. I’m not claiming this is necessary, I just picked up a big cheap pack of metric fastners.

Re: Insuring a grand-daughter for a few days
An insurance man once explained to me that cheap classic car policies were only possible by avoiding any undue risks and providing only ‘safe’ cover, hence limited mileage and no cover for business use, young drivers etc. The difficulty with short term cover is that £10 a day seems a lot on a pro ra...

The claim to be a Minor? A few panels plus maybe the V5c from a scrap vehicle.
Given that split screen vans are pretty rare it would be interesting to see what year and body type are recorded on the V5c.

Re: Export option
My guess is it went something like this; US importer. ‘You need to fit higher headlights to the Minor’ Morris. ‘Why?’ ‘There’s a new law here, the old lights are too low.’ ‘Suppose we don’t?’ ‘Well then you can forget about selling any more Minors over here.’ ‘I suppose we’ll have to then.’ ‘Also co...

Re: 2 cyl A Series engine
Watching this I was struck by the sheer weight and bulk of the thing. The a series motor is pretty solidly built with chunky castings and heavy for it’s size. Cut in half we’re looking at an engine of about 400cc and I’d guess maybe 12bhp. I think perhaps they should have consulted a motorcycle desi...

It would be worth salvaging the rear window surround if it is in reasonable condition. I’m assuming it’s a saloon.

Re: HRH The Duke of Edinburgh
My son has been incubating some duck eggs and one hatched about the time of his passing. Someone pointed out that to buddhists, who believe in reincarnation, this could be the next life of the late duke.
I’m afraid the newcomer has become known as Philip, Duck of Edinburgh.

Sticky speedo - lubricate?
I have an early ‘54 car with gold dash and small speedo. It sat for years before I started using it and even now is lightly used. When I first worked on it the speedo didn’t work at all. The needle had stuck in the rest position and I managed to free it off. It worked ok last year but the car has no...

Assuming no DVLA problems? Good luck with that!
Seriously, I wouldn’t wait for them to sort themselves out, it can take months. Get on with the car and the eventual v5c will be a pleasant surprise.

More powerful than an early 2cv? Dammed with faint praise I think.

A Minor engine will be fine on unleaded fuel in normal use. You should only need a modified head if you are planning severe usage, such as classic rallying.

Re: Hello, and advise please.
Another factor to consider is that you mention not doing the work yourself. If you are paying hourly rates the cost will soon escalate and I would suggest that fan, shocks, flashing trafficators and alternator will not be cost effective improvements. An alternator is really necessary only if you fit...

Re: Hello, and advise please.
Hello and welcome. I have a 1098 engine in my early ‘54 saloon. I told Footman James and they sucked their teeth. Had I uprated the brakes and suspension? I assured them that it had the 8’’ front brakes of a 1098 car and that the rear brakes and suspension stayed the same throughout Minor production...

Not forgetting that for several hours it was, yet again, preceded by the inability to post up images. I would have thought that with the pandemic, activity around here would have increased, since people would be limited in what other activities they could do. Yet it seems it has dried up to a fract...
