Re: Cheesed off.

If you have a resistor coil, they're designed to operate at around 9v so they won't last long with 12v hooked up.
Most cars from the '70s & '80s used these to beef up the spark when starting the engine.

Re: Parking light switch on cars in Western Australia

For some reason, NSW never had that rule but I'm sure Victoria had it.

Re: Parking light switch on cars in Western Australia

It was a requirement in a few states but there's a couple of variations of reasons why they were fitted. One was so that the Police could turn on the tail lights if the car was parked near the side of the road at night, the other was that the owner could check that the lights were working when they ...

Re: Last days for one of my MMs

It's been sitting outside with no roof on for nearly 30 years now. There's absolutely no interior & any saveable lowlight specific parts will be removed. Interestingly, it had a 12/48 regulator on it so that will be handy for another early car. The later engine had an early head on it so I remov...

Re: A low-light on eBay

Getting the actual car number would be nice as it has the very early firewall crossmember (dished slightly behind the engine) & appears to have sharp gutters.

if it is indeed in the 4000 series of numbers, it would place it in the first 50 of known survivors according to the MM register.

... maybe when they fitted the later engine... Scott, this engine looks pretty early to me with no water pump - are you referring to the fact that it has a blanking plate for fitting a pump, rather then a plain solid casting? George. The water jacket at the side is the first major difference. Don't...

Re: A low-light on eBay

It has late doors so it's probably had a repaint somewhere along the line, maybe when they fitted the later engine... To the uninitiated, whats the difference between early and later doors? Andy The early cars didn't have the escutcheons around the door handles. This car has them so it has later do...

Last days for one of my MMs

After donating it's roof for the repair of SMM1228 in 1989 & sitting outside topless for the subsequent 27 years, it's time for this little MM to meet it's maker. It's an unusual car (sort of) in that it's a CKD but it appears to have been built prior to the factory being officially opened in Au...

Hi Brian,
Frank was kind enough to get in contact via PM after my post. I'd lost touch with him after leaving my workplace a few years ago so it was good to catch up with him again.

Re: Front Wheel Bearings

Thank you. But are you sure the MM style hubs use a thrust bearing? The ones I took out are the same on both sides. They don't have a thin outer race one side and a thick one on the other. They are both thick. Yes, all ball type roller wheel bearings are thrust bearings. There will be a slight diff...

Re: Front Wheel Bearings

The bearings have a thrust side. It's critical that they're fitted the right way around otherwise they can separate & you can lose the hub/wheel off the car. The stamped side needs to go against the spacer. The nut needs to be tight, wheel nut tight is fine unless you have a torque setting handy...

I'm pretty sure messages sit in your 'outbox' until they're read. They then go to the 'sent box'. That way you know when they've been read, as they have now.

VW used a colour very close to Romain Green (some say the same) on one of their Transporters:

There's usually a Morris Minor Club National Rally every 2nd Easter but they're on 'odd' years so there isn't one in 2016.

Thanks OHP. I supplied him a couple of chrome joiners in exchange for a length of the rubber seal he had made.
