A UK guy had a length of the '48/early '49 rubber made around 10 years (maybe more) ago. I'm sure some ended up in NZ.
I can't remember his name though (Frank?) but I'm sure he was in the MMOC & was restoring a '48.

a) What is the best spare parts manual for the above two cars. The best parts manuals are the genuine types. They pop up on eBay from time to time: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-MORRIS-MINOR-SERIES-2-1000-OWNERS-ILLUSTRATED-SPARE-PARTS-BOOK-1961-/381222986933?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item...

Re: wich carburetor is original for a '51 MM?

There's no spring in the Series MM carby. The strap for the oil bath air filter attaches to the aluminum casting between the filter & carby, just above the dashpot area. It's basically just a strip of metal about 5/16" wide IIRC. **Edit: Carby photo #1 has the strap. It looks little misshap...

Re: 1950 Saloon project

The passenger door is the original one, but the drivers was a rusty replacement, luckily my Dad broke a 2 door in 1985, and he's kindly given me the door for the project( He's also given me a very nice and largely rust free early Series 2 bootlid thanks Dad!) A small point but if you miss it now, y...

Re: original clock housing MM

The Minor clock fits from the outside so that little tab on the side might be an obstacle. The hand adjustment will need to be removed before fitment too (easy) then refitted. You'll need to change the bezel too. Tracking down a suitable one might be a challenge but I'm sure there will be a Smiths g...

TvdWerf, Happy new year. Picture of my handbrake untouched from new.[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1420564665_17617 [/frame] :D My handbrake lever looked like that one. I took it to an electroplater who suggested it was Satin Chrome so I had it re-done like that. It basically turned out...

All the spares you need should fit under the boot floor, leave the spare gearbox at home!
And if you remove the spare wheel & refit it upside down, you can fill that up too.

From what I've seen, Australian CKD lowlights were the same as the UK cars, except for the steering wheel & column which were finished in the same gold as the dash. IIRC, the switch panel was also gold.

Re: NEW MM ENGINE PARTS

Note generator engine has a different crank with a rear seal and no scroll therefore the block and crank cannot be mixed. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I had the scroll machined off my crankshaft so I could fit a rear main seal. I assume these are the engines here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/...

Re: How accurate are Minor books...?

I don't know about 1957/1958 but these days next years model would be released in the later part of this year.

If that was the case 50 odd years ago too, October 1957 built might well be classed as a 1958 model (if they were sold like that).

Re: Lucas L482 rear lamps

How did the 'reflector' work?
Was it actually a reflector as we normally know it or was it just there to basically fill the hole & make the rear of the car look symmetrical?

Re: Lucas L482 rear lamps

Have a look here:
http://potteries.mmoc.org.uk/Identify.htm
The white lens is supposed to be a reflector & the body appears to be the same one used for the light.

I've used a light body & cut down a modern reflector to replace the red lens.

Re: Steering rack--semi-fluid grease???

I've been using something similar in my steering racks since Land Rover introduced it in their swivel housings in around 1997.
According to the Morris Lubricants site, the Land Rover equivalent is their K84 semi fluid grease.

I'm saying if 39991 was on the ID tag, that might be from Feb 1950. The car certainly isn't though.

Just replace the headlights. 7" headlights are readily available, either in sealed beams or halogen.

Aparently he was exported from the factory on 11.02.1950.
If one of the 9's was dropped, I'd believe Feb 1950 is possible but that would mean the ID tag doesn't match your car.

Re: how do i date my car?

It certainly looks like a 1954-1956 Series II.

Even if the front panels have been changed, the long bonnet = 1951 onwards.

Looking at photos in your other threads (windscreen leak photo), I assume it has a central speedo....correct?
If so, then it's within the 1954 to 1956 period.

Is this a 'local' register or do you want details of cars in other countries too?

Re: Build Date of my Morris

The APHM number indicates it's a Series II so definitely not a 1950 unless the ID tags have been swapped between cars.

Do you have any pictures or the eBay link?

The Torana discs are normally sourced from HBs, not LHs.
From what I've seen, LHs are all 5 stud hubs, unless the 4cyl cars were 4 stud.

Re: late MM for sale

listed as series 2 I did send the seller a message informing them that it seemed to be a MM but recieved a reply that they had owned the car for years and knew what they were talking about ect. and so I left it at that. Looks like he's changed his mind. The listing now describes it as a Series MM :)
