Re: Lowlight headlamps refurb + Grille

After doing some research on this around 20 years ago, I had my headlamps re-silvered, not chromed.

A quick Google brings up some info on this:

I've always just used a regular OHV valve spring compressor. Mind you, I have only ever done this with the engine out (saves the back & neck).

I took a sample in & had it matched. The closest standard colour was from an old Suzuki 4wd. I have the tin still but I'm not sure if the name on it is still readable after 20 odd years.

I can't see your pictures (blocked at work) but it sounds like a very early MM dash panel. My #1228 doesn't have the tabs underneath & it's secured by 3 studs.

How about lilac. Then you can say it's a 'factory' colour :D .

Click on the 62 in my signature to see my lilac sedan  .

My next question would have been has anyone mated a 1275 engine with the sidevalve gearbox - and if so for how long! There's a Series MM out here with a 1098cc engine & it's still using the original Series MM gearbox. The gearbox is a lot stronger than the OHV units but they weigh a fair bit mo...

Too many hours, yes. I built it for my good wife & she wanted a purple Morris Minor. I showed her a photo of a Million & she loved the colour.
Mine's not quite a correct copy though as it's a 4 door. I made all the 1000000 badges though :D .

With a grinder & welder, you can relocate the drive peg to give whatever degree of sweep you need.

Unless you can work out the exact position though, it may be by trial & error.

You can definitely make your own tubing & put your wheel boxes where you like.

I'm not too sure how clear the photo is but have a look at my van in my signature - I fitted 3 wipers this way :D .

Have a look at the area in one of the pics that shows the area below the hood. There is that bulge that sat below the roof-sides joint and was only found on the later cars. My '49 hasn't got the bulge but our '52 does. I realise that this car is in-between so it may be my error and not anything dub...

The restored 'brown' car in my signature is #1228.
The pictures of the unrestored green(ish) car is #2406.

I also have #922 but I don't think I've posted photos up here of that car.

Hi Mike,
#1049 was on eBay earlier this year in Victoria, Australia. I'm not exactly sure of the number though. Definitely in the 1000s though.

#2406 is sitting in my garage.

They're quite a strong rear axle assy but the Series II version of the sidevalve axle was 5.25:1 so you'll be revving out very quickly with a 1098 in front of it. The sidevalve is better with 4.55:1 but you'd more than likely be better off with a 4.22:1 or 3.9:1 diff ratio so the banjo type rear axl...

There are a few early low lights in Australia.

I know of:
#922
#1049 (?)
#1125
#1228
#1313
#2406

There are also others listed in the Australian Low Light book that was published back in the late '80s.
