New Exhaust

I just installed a new exhaust on my sedan. It's the two piece pipe and muffler from a prominent supplier in the UK. I also replaced the insulator above the muffler.
I'm a bit surprised to see about 1.75 inch clearance between muffler and insulator.
Is this as it should be?

Re: Heater specification

That's my only fan, and it puts out a lot of air. I had the whole heater disassembled when I got the car, it having been derelict for 14 years. This car is a 64. My other is a 60, with the round heater and integral fan. I'm curious about how they came to rate the heaters in kW's. That calculation of...

Heater specification

I see two heater specs for the Morris. One is 2.8kW, and the other is 3.something kW. What are they measuring to get that kW spec? 2.8kw is about 3.8hp, or around 200 amps at 12 volts. I think I've attached a picture of the fan I have. It's mounted in the engine compartment, not in the heater itself.

Parking brake or first gear?

I'm starting to think that I am the only one who leaves any car in neutral with the parking brake on. It seems everyone else leaves it in gear with the brake off.
Is there a "proper" way, and what would make it proper?

1960's movie or film

I'm in Florida.
As I was filling up with gas (petrol), a gentleman admiring my 64 Saloon said there was a movie made in the 60's in which there was a town where ALL the cars were Minors.
Does anybody know of such a film? I have to watch it.

Re: How to post a photo

My picture may have been too large, 448x252. I've resized it to 300x169. In the user control panel, Edit signature, I don't see a way to upload the picture. I've clicked on the IMG button, and have the coding come up ready to have the picture address inserted in the center. As a test, I'm going to &...

Re: Going mental

On your side of the Atlantic, I believe that's called a "Bodge."
It's not difficult to drain and drop the tank. On a workbench with everything in sight, you'll be able to make the right repair.
Of course, observe all standard precautions when working with petrol.

Re: Going mental

I would suggest as above, except, don't pull the cap off. Pull the center lead and hold it close to anything metal. Turn over the engine with the switch on. Too much opportunity to short out the points if you're operating them with a screwdriver. Of course, if you have the cap with the side entry HT...

Re: Going mental

It's "NEEDLE AND SEAT". I don't think you can get them separately, but change both.
As for the float and hinge pin, if yours is sloppy at all, go for a replacement. The float should move freely with no side to side movement.

Re: Going mental

You're looking for item 31, needle and seat. Possibly 27 and 28. The workshop manual shows just how to adjust the float level. I can't get to my copy to get a picture for you.
Here's a poor quality picture.

Re: Going mental

If it is the silted up fuel tank, it should be easy to check by taking the level sender off and looking with a flashlight (torch.) The usual cautions when working with/near petrol. There are kits to clean and coat the inside of tanks. Because Moggies are so small, you can get away with a motorcycle ...

Re: Unable to turn off heater

I have this valve on both my MM's. Works great. Only problem is that I couldn't find it in 1/2 inch, so used reducers.
74627 HVAC Heater Control Valve on Ebay. Price runs about $20 USD.

Re: Grumpy engine steady

it appears that only the Minor suffers clutch judder when not fitted with the engine steady.
Could that be because of the linkage where others may have a hydraulic clutch?

Re: Grumpy engine steady

How do I tighten the engine steady? Is the object to pull the engine toward the body when tightening, or to push it away? It seems that a turnbuckle would be the ideal solution, but when adjusting the center hex section, it doesn't effect the tightness.

Re: oil leak after rebuild !"$&**??**

I like to put a dollop of something, gasket cement, hylomar, silicone, where the three parts come together. Two seal halves and cork pan gasket.
