That little button like spring with the hook that's so difficult to fit,
Why only on the rear shoes? why not on the front?

These are very handy. They also make it less likely that you'll over-tighten the valve seat.

On this side of the Atlantic, Rustoleum makes a paint called "Appliance Epoxy." Very very durable.

Re: Disposable brake master cylinders?
Back to the master cylinder.... Goop on the outside shouldn't effect the function. Exactly why and how did the mc fail? You said 1000 miles in 5 years, so it didn't get much exercise. Are you using good brake fluid that won't degrade? I think you need to find the source of the goop on the outside, a...

Re: Setting static timing with no reference
my understanding is that you cannot determine the points opening position by conventional means. You install the distributor aligning as well as you can with the dizzy removed. Then get the engine started, and time with a timing light.
Follow instructions that come with the new dizzy.

Re: No drive!
The half shaft arrived without left/right markings. That's ok, because it's about 2 inches too short.
It's a BTA 806, for sprites and midgets. I guess they're a bit narrower cars. I'm back to searching for a ATA7057. Never too old to learn.

Re: Running problem that feels like fuel sarvation
I put accuspark components into my dizzy. It ran great for about 15 miles. Then it ran no more. I had to be towed home. I put the points back in and haven't had a problem.

Re: The good old 948cc 'A' Series
Early in this thread, (Oct 16) Panky mentioned " It's a shame the 1098 has it's limitations."
How about a brief summary of those limitations, as I have two 1098's.
Thanks

The old saying is:

Re: Setting static timing with no reference
Note that you will be turning over the engine by hand when looking for TDC. As the #1 piston comes up, block the plug hole with your thumb, and you will be able to feel the compression. I use something softer than a metal rod. The small spray tube from a can of brake cleaner, carb cleaner etc. When ...

I broke my axle a couple of days ago, so I'm going through the same fix.
Does anyone have a guess as to why or how this happens?

Re: alternator conversion
I put an alternator in my Morris minor last week, and it's very easy. I used a #14029A from advance auto parts, $65. I bought two used regulators on Ebay, and pulled the guts out of them. Terminals A and A1 are connected. I ran a jumper to terminal D. After my surgery, Terminals E and F aren't conne...

Re: Something not right with front suspension.
I have to adjust my camber. What is the diameter of the eye bolt? I can find washers locally, but I'd like to have them at hand before energizing the wrenches.
