Re: Am I being thick ?
With power to the coil, you can check the coil by connecting the other coil Low Tension lead intermittently to ground. If the coil is good, you will get a spark between the coil High Tension lead and ground when set up like an earlier test. If the coil is good, then the problem lies downstream. Look ...

Re: Speedometer issue!
You could count actual tpm for your car if you have enough speedo cable left.
Lay out a course of 52 ft. 9.5 inches, that's 1/100 of a mile. count your turns over that course and multiply by 100.
This will help, too.

Traveller Rear Door Checks
I was trying to load a bulky item into the back of the Traveller. There were two of us handling it. We could not get both of us and the item between the doors when they were opened to their max 90 degree position. This is my solution for the next time.[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=13778...

Re: rear van doors
If the Traveller uses the same hinges, this is what I came up with when sorting my Traveller hinges. The hinge bodies had numbers cast into them, 17, 19, 21, 23, 18-20, and 22-24. I got a good fit with this placement: Top Left; 19 & 18-20 Top Right; 17 & 18-20 Lower Left; 23 & 22-24 Lowe...

Re: Strange banging/clanking sound. Help ?
I found no internal signs. I concluded that it was the exhaust banging against the bulkhead about a foot downstream from the manifold.

1/4 inch per hole in the rear bracket. Don't forget the washer between the torsion bar lever and the bracket.

Re: Bushes and stuff
Look at section K in the maint manual. I found the dimensions given in figure K3 to be my best guide. Get dimension C to 14.3 cm with the wheel off the ground and you will be there.

Do you set 90° at the front cross bar(pict 1) then measure (pict 3)?

Re: My first Ribcase
I understand now. I thought you were implying that the locating studs for the back plate might not align. The plate came off the engine, so it will go back on. The plate fits snugly on the bell housing, so that will be OK. BUT The protruding input shaft may interfere. Now I understand. Everything wi...

Re: Bushes and stuff
Not difficult, but it quickly ceases to be fun. Get a set of poly bushings and a spray can of liquid wrench to loosen things. Look carefully at the front eyebolts. If the bushings are bad, you may have some excess wear there. When you get to the rear springs, don't forget the pads where the springs ...

Re: My first Ribcase
I've fitted the plate to the bell housing, and it's a nice fit.
On the smooth cases, the input shaft is flush with the edge of the bell housing. When I saw the shaft protruding that little bit, I thought, Crikey, what next.

Those shims go on the outer race, between the bearing and the front cover and rear tailpiece. They serve to keep the bearing in place.

Re: My first Ribcase
This whole journey started with engine noises. I decided to upgrade the gearbox since everything was out of the car anyway. I'm waiting for engine parts to start that reassembly. I've noticed that the input shaft is about 5/32 longer on the ribcase as compared to smoothcase. The backplate of the 948...

Re: My first Ribcase
I ordered my bearings from ESM: 1 x 1st Motion Shaft Bearing (2A3245) (10G141) = £9.95 1 x 3rd Motion Shaft Bearing (22A465) (10G184) = £12.50 The 10G numbers are what is shown in the Morris Minor parts manual, pages 92/93. They both measure the same in all aspects, but one comes with the shim and s...
